Belgian First Division A History

Belgian First Division A began in 1895 with 7 clubs with FC Liegeois becoming the first champions. The first eight titles were in fact shared between FC Liegeois and RC de Bruxelles.

The Belgian First Division has been on the search for the correct formula for some time now. They increased the amount of teams from 16 to 18 but then back down to 16 in 2009/10. They have returned to 18 teams for the 2020/21 season.
