Standard Liege vs Genk Predictions

Genk defeated Liege in the Belgian Cup final last season, but there was nothing between the sides in the league with both games ending in draws.

Another stalemate is predicted in the season-opener on Friday.

  • Standard Liege are winless in 6 of their last 7 matches (all competitions).
  • Standard Liege have seen BTTS in 6 of their last 7 matches (all competitions).
  • Standard Liege have drawn their last 2 matches against Genk (First Division).
  • Genk are undefeated in 11 of their last 12 matches (First Division).
  • Genk have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 5 matches (all competitions).

Head to Head

There has been nothing to split these sides in the last 10 clashes in the league with three wins each and four draws.

Last season, a 0-0 draw in Liege was followed by a 2-2 stalemate in Genk.

Genk did win the most recent clash in the Belgian Cup final with a 2-1 victory in April.

Standard Liege Form

Standard Liege lost the Belgian Cup final to Genk in April and it kickstarted a miserable end to the season.

Mbaye Leye's side went down 2-1 in the final and it was one of six defeats in the last seven games of the campaign.

It resulted in Liege finishing sixth in the regular season and fourth in the Play Off II group.

In preparation for the start of the season, Liege have played six friendlies. They have drawn four of them and won against Cercle Brugge and lost to Rochefort.

Standard Liege Team News

Liege have sold centre-back Zinho Vanheusden to Inter Milan and winger Michel-Ange Balikwisha to rivals Royal Antwerp.

Winger Eddy Sylvestre has been loaned to Pau for the season and goalkeeper Jean-François Gillet, full-back Laurent Jans and forward Duje Cop have left the club.

Young defenders Alexandro Calut, Nathan Ngoy and Allan Delferriere have all been promoted to the first-team squad.

Winger Aleksandar Boljevic and forward Denis Dragus are back in the fold after loan spells away last season.

Genk Form

Genk finished second to champions Club Brugge last season and earned a spot in the Champions League third qualifying round.

John van den Brom's side ended the season in good form, lifting the Belgian Cup and losing just once in the last 12 league matches of the season.

Genk did go down 3-2 to Club Brugge in the Super Cup last weekend despite Theo Bongonda giving them an early lead.

Genk have also gone unbeaten in five friendlies, winning three of them and drawing the other two.

Genk Team News

Midfielder Mats Möller Daehli has been sold to FC Nuremberg after a successful loan last season, while full-backs Jere Uronen and Casper De Norre and forward Zinho Gano have also moved on in permanent transfers.

Midfielder Dries Wouters has completed a free transfer to Schalke after the end of his contract. Ivan Fiolic has also left at the end of his deal.

Genk have splashed out on Willem II attacking midfielder Mike Trésor Ndayishimiye and also signed Deportivo de La Coruña centre-back Mujaid Sadick.

Full-back Simen Jukleröd and midfielder Carel Eiting have joined on free transfers from Royal Antwerp and Ajax respectively.
