Bahia vs Corinthians Preview & Betting Tips

Bahia and Corinthians face each other in a week 12 fixture in the Brazilian Serie A at the Arena Fonte Nova. Both teams are looking to end a run of poor results, with Bahia attempting to escape the bottom three and Corinthians hoping to climb out of mid-table.

Tricolor Bahiaco played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Botafogo at home in their previous outing last Sunday. They had to come from behind as they needed a 90th minute strike from Agustin Allione to claim a share of the spoils.

Although the result ended a run of three straight defeats, Bahia remain 18th in the table with nine points. They failed to score a single goal in those three losses and were beaten by Parana who are ranked one place below.

Goals have been a problem for the Salvador based club this season, having scored only nine times so far.  Claudio Prates’ team has also struggled defensively with 17 goals conceded in 11 matches.

Allione could be given a start after coming off the bench to grab the equaliser against Botafogo. The 23-year-old could replace Regis in the starting line up, while Vinicius, Kayke and Elber are all likely to feature.

Corinthians were held to a drab goalless draw at home by Vitoria last weekend. The result means the defending champions are now winless in their last three matches and sit in ninth position on the league table.

Timao have claimed just one win in their last seven matches, a hard fought 1-0 victory over second place Atletico Mineiro. However, they could rise to as high as fifth on the table if results go their way on Sunday.

There are no major injuries or suspensions in the Corinthians squad, which means manager Osmar Loss could retain the same squad from last Sunday. Roger will likely continue as the loan man up front, with Pedrinho and Mateus Vital providing support.

Rodriguinho, Gabriel and Maycon are also in like to start, while Marquinhos Gabriel, Emerson Sheik and Matheus Matias are all likely to feature after coming off the bench against Mineiro.

Bahia won the last fixture between both teams as Vicinius and Regis gave them a 2-0 victory. Corinthians are unbeaten in four of their last two meetings, including a 3-0 win in June 2017.

Corinthians will be banking on their excellent record against the hosts, which has seen them claim five wins in their last seven meetings. With Roger, Pedrinho and Vital in their ranks, they should have too much quality for Bahia.

Key Statistics

  • Bahia have lost 5 of their last 8 matches (Serie A).
  • Bahia have failed to win in 5 of their last 6 home matches (Serie A).
  • Corinthians have won 5 of the last 7 matches against Bahia (Serie A).

Bahia’s troubles appear to have no end in sight. Corinthians have a fantastic record against the hosts and should compound their misery on Sunday.
