Brazilian Serie B History
The Brazilian Serie B began in 1971 but hasn’t taken place in every year since. Between 1973 and 1979 the league was not held, and then again in 1986 and 1987. It was also given a miss in 1992 and 2000.
From 1971 to 2005 the league was held as a knockout competition but that changed in 2006 and has been played as a normal double round of fixtures league ever since.
In 1986, 1987 and 2000 the league was held but those three seasons are not recognised by the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation).
