Shanghai Port vs Qingdao Hainiu Predictions

Shanghai should return to winning form at SAIC Motor Pudong Arena, with a comfortable victory expected on Friday.

I'm backing the hosts to win with a minimum of three match goals.

Stats

  • Shanghai Port won 14 of their last 17 home matches (CSL)
  • Shanghai Port have seen over 2.5 goals in 13 of their last 17 home matches
  • Shanghai Port won their last 5 matches against Qingdao Hainiu
  • Qingdao Hainiu have seen over 2.5 goals in their last 5 matches against Shanghai Port
  • Qingdao Hainiu lost 9 of their last 10 away matches (CSL)

Head to Head

Shanghai Port and Qingdao Hainiu have met on seven previous occasions. Shanghai won their last five encounters after Qingdao scored two victories in their first-ever meetings 12 years ago.

Shanghai Port Form

Shanghai Port return to the SAIC Motor Pudong Arena after a comfortable 2-0 win against Wuhan Three Towns on Monday. First-half goals from Wang Shenchao and Mateus Vital secured a third successive road victory for the Red Eagles.

While usually dominant at SAIC Motor Pudong Arena, Kevin Muscat's side have failed to win their last three home CSL fixtures. They had claimed victories in 17 of 18 previous league matches on home soil.

Ten games into the season, Port sit fourth in the division, with 20 points on the board.

Shanghai Port Team News

Head coach Muscat could be forced into at least one selection change this week. Liu Ruofan is set to miss out after he was withdrawn at the interval against Wuhan.

Zhen'ao Wang, Tyias Browning, Junling Yan and Umidjan Yusup remain sidelined with various injury issues.

Qingdao West Coast Form

Qingdao make the trip to Shanghai after finally claiming their first CSL victory of the campaign on Monday. Wellington Silva's brace helped West Coast secure a much-needed 3-0 win against Changchun Yatai.

Shao Jiayi's side had picked up just four points from their first nine league games of the new season, while they had failed to win ten previous CSL matches since January.  On the road, a miserable record has seen West Coast fail to win 14 of their last 15 away CSL matches (W1, D2, L12).

Despite Monday's victory, Qingdao remain inside the relegation zone.

Qingdao West Coast Team News

Qingdao boss Shao Jiayi is set to stick with much of the same XI that eased past Changchun Yatai earlier this week. Jia Feifan could drop out of the side with Jin Yonghao pushing for a recall to the first XI.

The CSL strugglers have no reported injury issues this week.

Verdict

Shanghai should ease to victory against a Qingdao side that rarely travels well.

A home win over 2.5 goals should prove the best bet at SAIC Motor Pudong Arena.
