Shanghai Port vs Shenzhen Peng City Predictions

Shanghai have been near-perfect this season, and another high-scoring home win seems inevitable on Friday.

I'm backing the hosts to win, with a minimum of four goals expected at SAIC Motor Pudong Arena.

  • Shanghai Port won 18 of their last 19 matches
  • Shanghai Port won 11 of their last 12 home matches (CSL)
  • Shanghai Port have seen over 3.5 goals in 10 of their last 12 home wins (CSL)
  • Shenzhen Peng City lost their last 3 matches
  • Shenzhen Peng City lost 3 of their last 4 away matches
  • Shenzhen Peng City have seen over 3.5 goals in 3 of their last 4 away defeats

Head to Head

Shanghai Port and Shenzhen Peng City will meet for the sixth time on Friday. Shanghai won four of their five previous encounters, including a 6-0 win in Shenzhen earlier this season.

Shanghai Port Form

Shanghai Port return to action three weeks after their latest comfortable CSL victory, a 3-0 win against Tianjin Jinmen Tiger. The Red Eagles bounced back from a first defeat of the season in their previous outing against city rivals Shanghai Shenhua.

Boasting an immense record at SAIC Motor Pudong Arena, Shanghai dropped just two points from 12 CSL matches played in front of their home support this season.

Free-flowing in attack, Kevin Muscat's table toppers have scored 50 goals in their 12 home CSL contests. That's an average of over four goals per game.

Shanghai Port Team News

Port boss Muscat is able to call on the same selection that eased past Tianjin last month. In-form Wu Lei will spearhead the home attack. The 32-year-old scored seven goals in his last two home appearances.

Injured winger Will Donkin is the only player still unavailable for the home side.

Shenzhen Peng City Form

Shenzhen Peng City face their first competitive fixture in September looking to bounce back from three consecutive defeats suffered in August.

A miserable month saw the partially-owned City Group side concede eight and score just one goal in losses against Wuhan (4-1), Chengdu (3-0) and Qingdao Hainiu (1-0).

Placed 11th in the 16-team division, Peng City sit only two points above the relegation zone.

Shenzhen Peng City Team News

Head coach Tato has no new injury issues ahead of Shenzhen's trip to Shanghai on Friday. Top scorer Edu Garcia is expected to remain absent for the out-of-form visitors.

Verdict

Shanghai should make light work of their relegation-threatened visitors on Friday.

I'm backing the league leaders to win with at least four goals scored at SAIC Motor Pudong Arena.
