Head to Head
This is going to be the first head to head match between Aston Villa and Athletic Bilbao.
Aston Villa Form
Aston Villa are having a disastrous pre-season campaign so far, losing all four friendly encounters.
The first one was recorded against an MLS side Columbus Crew 4-1, followed by a 2-0 loss to RB Leipzig also on the US soil.
The Villans couldn’t score and lost their third straight match four days ago against Club America 1-0.
Besides Athletic Bilbao, Unai Emery’s side will also lock horns against Borussia Dortmund before the new season kicks off on 17th August against West Ham.
Athletic Bilbao Form
Athletic Bilbao’s form and results have been inconsistent so far in the pre-season which they started with a 2-1 defeat to Burgos.
The Basque side bounced back against Racing Santander 2-1 but then got demolished by Sporting Lisbon 3-0 in Portugal.
They looked much better in their two friendly games earlier this month, beating Eibar 1-0 and Osasuna 2-1.
Verdict
Aston Villa have lost all three pre-season friendlies while scoring just one goal. Athletic Bilbao are in much better form with three wins in their last four contests, so an away win is value.
