World Cup favorites Brazil are the odds-on favorites to claim top spot in Group D, priced at 1.40.

Colombia are second favourites, priced at 3.75 to top the section. In an intriguing group, Paraguay are 13.0 to finish top, with Costa Rica the outsiders at 19.0 odds.

The Seleção, boasting a star-studded lineup and a rich Copa America history, will be determined to reclaim their continental crown. However, Colombia's attacking flair and Paraguay's defensive resilience could pose significant challenges for the pre-tournament second-favourites.

Will Brazil live up to their favourites tag and dominate the group? Can Colombia's talented squad secure an upset? Or will Paraguay or Costa Rica defy the odds and shake up the group standings?

Let's dissect Group D and explore the potential value bets for this likely competitive Copa America section.

Brazil

World Ranking: 5
Copa America Appearances: 36
Copa America Wins: 9

Brazil arrive in the USA looking for a historic 10th Copa America title victory. Winners on three occasions in this century, including the 2019 edition, the Seleção Canarinha are priced up as second-favourites at 3.25 odds to go all the way in the US.

Listed as short 1.4 odds-on favourites to win Group D, Brazil have endured a torrid run of form in recent months. Following a 1-1 draw in their World Cup qualification campaign at home to Venezuela, the Seleção lost three successive WC qualifiers for the first time in their illustrious history.

Remarkably, Brazil had not lost any of their previous 37 qualifiers over the previous eight years before their alarming dip in form.

Still, with a star-studded squad and plenty of attacking fire-power, the Brazilians should surely get back to winning form this summer.

Led by interim boss Dorival Júnior, Brazil get their campaign underway with a winnable-looking tie against Costa Rica in California. A victory on matchday one would set the Brazilians up nicely for likely stiffer tests against Paraguay and Colombia.

Colombia

World Ranking: 12
Copa America Appearances: 23
Copa America Wins: 1

Colombia have enjoyed something of a resurgence in the past 12 months. Since failing to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar, Los Cafeteros have gone 21 games unbeaten, including five successive victories since October.

Currently top of the 2026 qualification campaign, Colombia bring plenty of confidence to the part this summer. Nestor Lorenzo´s side have not lost since a 1-0 defeat in Argentina over two years ago.

Perennial under-achievers, Los Cafeteros claimed their only Copa Triumph back in 2001. Since then, Colombia have reached the semi-finals on three occasions, including a third-place finish at the most recent event in 201.

While placed in a tough section, the Colombians look well-placed for a deep run in the USA this summer.

Paraguay

World Ranking: 56
Copa America Appearances: 37
Copa America Wins: 2

Paraguay faces a daunting task in Group D of Copa America 2024, drawn alongside regional powerhouses Brazil and Colombia.

La Albirroja's recent form, which has seen them fail to win nine of their last 11 internationals, gives little cause for optimism. Paraguay also slipped to losses in three of their last five World Cup qualifiers

While boasting talented players like Miguel Almirón, Paraguay's overall squad depth and recent performances suggest they are a step behind their group rivals.

Although Paraguay's passion and fighting spirit should not be underestimated, their chances of advancing from Group D appear slim. Given their current form and the formidable opposition in the section, progress to the quarter-finals would appear unlikely.

Costa Rica

World Ranking: 52
Copa America Appearances: 4
Copa America Wins: 0

Costa Rica enter Group D facing an uphill battle as the sole CONCACAF representative among three South American powerhouses. Their recent form, with just four wins in their last 14 matches, raises plenty of concerns about their ability to compete in this challenging group.

Despite a memorable 1-0 victory over Japan in the 2022 World Cup, heavy defeats to Spain and Germany exposed their vulnerabilities against top-tier opposition.

While they have secured wins against regional opponents like Martinique, Saudi Arabia, El Salvador, and Honduras, in recent months, their overall record of nine losses in their last 14 internationals gives plenty of cause for concern.

Given the strength of their opponents and their inconsistent form, Costa Rica's chances of progressing from Group D appear slim. Still, while they are rightly considered group underdogs, their fighting spirit  could still see them cause one or two surprises in the group stage.

H2H

As you might expect, Brazil have a largely dominant record against all three opponents in the section. Colombia have performed well in recent meetings against the group favourites, though, including a famous 2-1 win in Barranquilla at the back end of last year.

Paraguay have failed to win any of their last five matches against Colombia while Costa Rica have lost all ten past encounters against Brazil.

Group D Tips

Colombia look over-priced to win the section, particularly when we factor in Brazil´s slump in form over the past year.

I´m backing Colombia to win the section ahead of their illustrious rivals.
