United States vs Bolivia Predictions

The host nation should prove far too strong for a Bolivian side so often over-matched at this tournament.

I'm putting my money on the USA to win by at least two goals on Sunday.

  • USA won by more than 1 goal in their last 9 victories
  • USA won by more than 2 goals in their last 2 matches against Bolivia
  • Bolivia lost their last 12 matches (Copa America)
  • Bolivia lost by more than 1 goal in 7 of their last 8 defeats (Copa America)

Head to Head

USA and Bolivia will meet for only the fourth time on Sunday. Bolivia edged to a 1-0 win in their only previous competitive encounter at the Copa America in 1995. Since then, the USA eased to 3-0 and 4-0 friendly victories in 2016 and 2018.

United States Form

The USA concluded their Copa America preparations with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Brazil in Florida ten days ago. Gregg Berhalter's side bounced back from a painful 5-1 defeat against Colombia three days earlier, with Christian Pulisic's goal cancelling out Rodrygo's opener in Miami.

The Stars and Stripes come into this competition in high spirits after claiming CONCACAF Nations League glory with a 2-0 win against Mexico in March.

Making only their third appearance at the Copa America, the USA reached the semi-final stage when they last hosted the event in 2016.

United States Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Matt Turner, Sean Johnson, Ethan Horvath
Defenders: Tim Ream, Antonee Robinson, Miles Robinson, Shaq Moore, Chris Richards, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Mark McKenzie, Joe Scally, Kristoffer Lund
Midfielders: Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams, Yunus Musah, Giovanni Reyna, Luca de la Torre, Johnny Cardoso, Malik Tillman, Timothy Tillman
Forwards: Christian Pulisic (captain), Brenden Aaronson, Timothy Weah, Ricardo Pepi, Josh Sargent, Folarin Balogun, Haji Wright, Néstor Gabriel Lorenzo

Head coach Berhalter has selected a 26-man group for the upcoming Copa America campaign.

Sergiño Dest was omitted from the US squad, while fellow PSV Eindhoven standout Malik Tillman has earned a spot.

Bolivia Form

Bolivia face the daunting prospect of facing the host nation after a 3-0 friendly defeat against Colombia last week. La Verde lost 11 and won only two of 14 international fixtures played over the past year.

Ranked 84th in the world, some 73 places below the US, Bolivia lost nine of their last ten competitive matches since January 2022. Antônio Zago's side leaked 28 goals while scoring just five in those nine defeats.

The Verde have a truly miserable record at the Copa America. Bolivia lost 21 and won only one of 30 games played since losing the final on home soil back in 1997.

Bolivia Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers:Carlos Lampe, Gustavo Almada, Guillermo Viscarra
Defenders: Jesús Sagredo, Diego Medina, Luis Haquín (captain), Adrián Jusino, Roberto Fernández, José Sagredo, Marcelo Suárez, Yomar Rocha
Midfielders: Leonel Justiniano, Miguel Terceros, Ramiro Vaca, Robson Tomé, Gabriel Villamil, Boris Céspedes, Fernando Saucedo, Héctor Cuéllar, Adalid Terrazas
Forwards: Jaume Cuéllar, César Menacho, Carmelo Algarañaz, Lucas Chávez, Rodrigo Ramallo, Bruno Miranda

Head coach Zago has a 26-man squad available for Sunday's Copa America opener in Texas. Danny Bejarano has not been included in the Bolivian selection.

Experienced midfielder Leonel Justiniano is set to win his 53rd cap for La Verde.

Verdict

USA should ease to victory in front of a passionate home support at the AT&T Stadium.

I'm backing the hosts to win by two clear goals against an out-of-form Bolivian side.
