Uruguay vs Paraguay Predictions

Paraguay and Uruguay are drawing with regularity which can continue at Copa America. I don’t see many goals in this match with under 2.5 goals my best bet.

  • Uruguay have seen under 2.5 goals in their last 6 matches (all competitions).
  • Uruguay have drawn 3 of their last 5 matches (all competitions).
  • Uruguay have drawn 4 of their last 6 matches against Paraguay (all competitions).
  • Paraguay are undefeated in 10 of their last 12 matches (all competitions).
  • Paraguay have drawn 5 of their last 10 matches (all competitions).
  • Paraguay have seen under 2.5 goals in 14 of their last 18 matches (all competitions).

Head to Head

Uruguay have a 20-13 advantage against Paraguay with 8 draws in 41 matches.

Uruguay Form

Uruguay are in poor form having won one of their last six matches. La Celeste failed to score in four of those games.

Óscar Tabárez’s side drew 0-0 at home against Paraguay and 0-0 in Venezuela in their final two World Cup qualifiers.

Uruguay lost 1-0 against Argentina in their opening match at Copa America. They drew 1-1 against Chile, equalising through an own goal.

Uruguay’s last match was a 2-0 win against Bolivia. The went ahead through an own goal, Edinson Cavani scoring the second in a match they largely dominated.

Uruguay Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Fernando Muslera, Martín Campaña, Sergio Rochet
Defenders: José Giménez, Diego Godín (captain), Ronald Araújo, Camilo Cándido, Giovanni González, Matías Viña, Sebastián Coates, Martín Cáceres
Midfielders: Matías Vecino, Rodrigo Bentancur, Nicolás De La Cruz, Nahitan Nández, Giorgian De Arrascaeta, Lucas Torreira, Federico Valverde, Fernando Gorriarán
Forwards: Luis Suárez, Brian Rodríguez, Maxi Gomez, Jonathan Rodríguez, Edinson Cavani, Facundo Torres, Brian Ocampo

Uruguay are guaranteed to reach the quarter-finals which could see Óscar Tabárez make some changes.

Martín Cáceres, Lucas Torreira, Rodrigo Bentancur and Nahitan Nández will all be hoping to start.

Edinson Cavani should partner Luis Suárez up front with the pair combining to score 115 international goals.

Paraguay Form

Paraguay are undefeated in 10 of their last 12 matches with five draws in their last ten.

La Albirroja went undefeated in their opening five World Cup qualifiers before a 2-0 defeat against Brazil.

Eduardo Berizzo’s side beat Bolivia 3-1 in their first match at Copa America. They suffered a 1-0 defeat against Argentina, falling behind in the 10th minute and fighting back strong but unable to find an equaliser.

Paraguay’s last match was a 2-0 win against Chile. They played well with Miguel Almirón assisting Braian Samudio for the opener before scoring a second half penalty.

Paraguay Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Antony Silva, Alfredo Aguilar, Gerardo Ortíz
Defenders: Gustavo Gómez (captain), Júnior Alonso, Fabián Balbuena, Santiago Arzamendia, Robert Rojas, Omar Alderete, Alberto Espínola, David Martínez
Midfielders: Óscar Romero, Miguel Almirón, Richard Sánchez, Mathías Villasanti, Robert Piris Da Motta, Gastón Giménez, Ángel Cardozo, Jorge Morel, Andrés Cubas, Braian Ojeda
Forwards: Ángel Romero, Alejandro Gamarra, Antonio Bareiro, Braian Samudio, Gabriel Ávalos, Carlos González, Julio Enciso

Paraguay’s squad lacks experience with only six players with more than 20 caps.

Ángel Romero is top scorer with eight goals in 29 international appearances. He should start at the expense of Braian Samudio who picked up a knock against Chile.

Ángel Cardozo Lucena is doubtful and could be replaced by Gastón Giménez in central midfield.

Verdict

Uruguay and Paraguay are finding it hard to win with plenty of draws in recent matches. I am backing a low scoring match to end in a 1-1 draw at Copa America.
