Venezuela vs Argentina Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Venezuela vs Argentina is expected to be a tight tussle at the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro. This Copa America quarter-final could go down to the wire in extra time and penalties.

Venezuela haven’t lost against Argentina in their last three matches. BTTS is the pick with a score draw offering value at 6.00 and a 2-2 draw paying 21.00 in the correct score market.

Venezuela Form & Team News

Venezuela reached the Copa America quarter-finals after two wins and a draw. Goalkeeper Wuilker Fariñez had to be at his best in a 0-0 draw against Peru in their opening match at the Grêmio Arena.

Left back Luis Del Pino was sent off in the 75th minute but Rafael Dudamel’s side held on for a vital point. Another 0-0 draw followed against hosts Brazil at the Arena Fonte Nova, Venezuela holding firm despite having 31% possession and seeing VAR come to the rescue on two occasions.

La Vinotinto then beat Bolivia 3-1 in Belo Horizonte in a convincing performance. Winger Darwin Machís bagged a brace to make it 2-0 and substitute Josef Martínez put the result beyond doubt after Bolivia had made it 2-1.

Dudamel has made a few small changes to his side during the group stage. Ronald Hernández has taken over the right back position, Darwin Machís has forced his way into the side with Yeferson Soteldo and Juan Pablo Añor doing well when called upon.

Central defender Mikel Villanueva missed out against Bolivia but could return against Argentina. Josef Martínez competes with José Salomón Rondón for a spot up front.

Venezuela are not fancied here and can be backed to beat Argentina at 6.00. A draw paying 4.00 which could be a popular pick considering Argentina’s recent struggles.

Argentina Form & Team News

Argentina overcame a poor start to their 2019 Copa America campaign to qualify for the quarter-finals. A 2-0 defeat against Colombia saw Lionel Scaloni’s side come under criticism and they were arguably worse in their next match against Paraguay which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Down 1-0 at half time at the Estadio Mineirao, Lionel Messi equalised from the penalty spot before goalkeeper Franco Armani saved a penalty to earn his nation a vital point. Scaloni made changes against Qatar that resulted in a 2-0 win.

Argentina lined up in a 4-3-3 formation with Juan Foyth starting in central defence, Renzo Saravia returning at right back and Lionel Messi lining up in attack alongside Lautaro Martínez and Sergio Agüero.

Martínez and Agüero scored for La Albiceleste with Marcos Acuña and Paulo Dybala plying prominent roles off the bench. Scaloni will probably persist with that formation and line up against Venezuela.

Argentina are favourites here at 1.55, but backing Argentina has proved problematic in recent times and La Albiceleste haven’t beaten Venezuela in their last three attempts.

Venezuela vs Argentina Head to Head

Argentina have dominated Venezuela throughout their history, La Albiceleste holding a 13-2 advantage with two draws. It’s been close in recent years however, two draws in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers followed by a Venezuela win in March 2019.

Venezuela won 3-1 at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano in an international friendly. José Salomón Rondón and Jhon Murillo put Venezuela 2-0 up, Lautaro Martínez pulled one back but Josef Martínez scored from the penalty spot to secure victory for Venezuela.

Venezuela vs Argentina Match Up

Venezuela are a better team but Argentina have better individual players, particularly in attack with Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martínez and Sergio Agüero.
