Dutch Cup Previews, Predictions & Betting Tips
The KNVB Beker is a football cup competition in the Netherlands that has been organised by the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) since 1898. Outside the Netherlands the competitions is known as the Dutch Cup.
Based on the English FA Cup, the tournament compromises all teams from the top three tiers of Dutch league football (Eredivisie, Eerste Divisie and Topklasse), along with the 24 semi-finalists of regional amateur cup tournaments.
The tournament finals traditionally occurs at the De Kuip Stadium in Rotterdam, where it has been held every season since 1988. The winners of the Dutch Cup earn a place in the Johan Cruijff Shield, known as the Dutch Super Cup, where they play against the winners of the Eredivisie.
Until 1998 the winner of the Dutch Cup gained entry into the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, but now the winner earns a spot in the UEFA Europa League. If the winning team has won the Eredivisie and qualified for the UEFA Champions League, the Europa League spot will be given to a club based on their position in the Eredivisie.
Ajax are the most successful team in KNVB Beker history, winning 18 titles with their last success coming in the 2009-10 season. Feyenoord next best with 13 titles, PSV Eindhoven have won nine Dutch Cups with AZ Alkmaar next best with four.
The defending champions are Feyenoord who won the 2017-18 title after a 3-0 win against AZ Alkmaar. Vitesse won the tournament in 2016-17, defeating AZ Alkmaar 1-0 with a late goal to Ricky van Wolfswinkel.
