Little more than a month after suffering relegation from the EFL Championship, Charlton get their 2020/21 season underway with an EFL Trophy clash against AFC Wimbledon at Kingsmeadow on Tuesday. Will either make it a winning start to the campaign?

AFC Wimbledon last played a competitive game on March 7th before the League One season was curtailed. Glyn Hodges' side sat one place above the drop zone. 

They will remain in the third tier this season, having done enough to stay out of the drop zone before the season was cancelled. AFC Wimbledon lost one of their last six games, drawing four.

AFC Wimbledon have played two friendlies in the build up to the new season, winning 3-0 against Tonbridge before losing 3-0 to Championship side QPR.

AFC Wimbledon have had a clearout since the end of last season with 11 departures. Cheye Alexander, Alex Woodyard, Ollie Palmer and Ethan Chislett have all joined on free transfers and Connal Trueman, Jaakko Oksanen and Ryan Longman have been signed on season-long loan deals.

Charlton's stay in the Championship lasted one season and they find themselves back in League One with AFC Wimbledon this season. 

Lee Bowyer's side picked up just three points from the last seven games with the winless run seeing the Addicks relegated on the final day of the season. Barnsley won their last two games to relegate Charlton by a single point.

Charlton finished the Championship season in late July and have since warmed up for life in League One with two friendlies - a 1-1 draw with Birmingham and a 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

Lyle Taylor has left for Nottingham Forest and Josh Cullen, Aiden McGeady and Matt Smith have all departed at the end of their loan spells. Chris Solly, Lewis Page, Tomer Hemed and Naby Sarr have been released.

The new faces brought in by Bowyer include Alex Gilbey from MK Dons and Hearts' Northern Ireland international forward Conor Washington.
