Egypt vs Paraguay Preview

Egypt conceded just one goal in the tournament so far, two of their three games ending with less than three goals. I expect to see a tight tussle against Paraguay considering the format and high stakes, under 2.5 goals being the best bet.

  • Egypt have seen under 2.5 goals in 2 of their last 3 matches.

Head to Head

This is going to be the first head to head encounter between Egypt and Paraguay at the Olympics.

Egypt Form

Egypt collected seven points in their three matches and won Group C ahead of Spain, Dominican Republic and Uzbekistan.

Their premiere appearance in the Olympics 2024 was far from impressive, a goalless draw against Dominican Republic, having 1.41-0.83 expected goals, 48% possession and 12-15 shots.

The first victory was secured in the second round, beating Uzbkekistan 1-0, Ahmed Koka scoring the only goal in first half.

Egypt caused an upset in the third round by defeating Spain 2-1, Ibrahim Adel finding the net in 40th and 62nd minute.

Paraguay Form

Paraguay suffered a disastrous 5-0 defeat to Japan in their Olympics opening match, Wilder Viera being sent off after just 25 minutes of play.

They bounced back in the second rough with a dramatic 4-2 victory against Israel. The score was tied until the 90th minute when Fabian Balbuena and Marcelo Fernandez hit the target.

Paraguay punched their quarterfinals ticket with a narrow 1-0 victory in the third round against Mali, Marcelo Fernandez appearing on the scoresheet once again.

Verdict

Egypt have the third-best defense in the tournament so far, allowing just one goal. Paraguay ended the group stages with a 1-0 win over Mali, so under 2.5 goals is the best bet.
