Burton Albion vs Manchester City Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Burton Albion host Manchester City at Pirelli Stadium after suffering a humiliating 9-0 defeat in the first leg of the English League Cup semi-finals. The Premier League champions are tipped in the -2 handicap market at 2.05, Gabriel Jesus the first goalscorer selection at great odds of 4.50 with the Brazilian also tipped to score 2 or more goals.

Burton Albion FC Form & Team News

Burton Albion had a rude awakening at the Etihad Stadium in the first leg, a 9-0 thrashing exposing the gulf in class between the League One club and Premier League champions. It remains to be seen how manager Nigel Clough approaches this match, the tie is over and the home side are long outsiders at 19.00 for the win with damage limitation the main priority.

Burton’s defence hasn’t been solid since that humiliation, a 3-2 home defeat against Gillingham followed despite Scott Fraser's brace. A trip to Doncaster Rovers ended 2-2 on Saturday with right-back John Brayford scoring his second goal in the 90th minute to rescue a point.

Striker Liam Boyce has scored 10 goals this season and provided eight assists, attacking midfielder Fraser doing well with six goals and five assists. However, it’s unlikely they will be able to penetrate City’s defence.

Manchester City FC Form & Team News

Pep Guardiola’s side are back on track having won six straight matches in all competitions. A vital 2-1 win against Liverpool in the English Premier League was followed by a 7-0 mauling of Rotherham United in the FA Cup and a 9-0 cakewalk against Burton Albion in the League Cup.

Two 3-0 wins in the EPL followed, at home against Wolverhampton and away at Huddersfield Town on Sunday. Danilo’s deflected strike put City 1-0 up at half-time, two quick goals to Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane after the break putting the result beyond doubt.

Guardiola will make wholesale changes here with Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva and John Stones in the starting lineup. Expect to see the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Fabian Delph also in contention in a heavily rotated squad.

Burton Albion vs Manchester City Head-to-Head

These clubs met for the first time in the first leg with Manchester City crushing Burton Albion 9-0 at the Etihad Stadium. Gabriel Jesus was the star of the show with four goals.

Burton Albion vs Manchester City Match Up

These clubs are miles apart in budget and class. Manchester City’s squad is valued at €1.13 Billion and Burton Albion’s squad is estimated to be valued at €6.45 Million.

Burton would have been mentally scarred after the first leg and all they can hope for here is City to go easy on them. It's unlikely to happen however, City's fringe players are trying to break into the first team and have too much to prove.

Verdict

This match is a complete mismatch as highlighted by the 9-0 demolition in the first leg. Manchester City are paying 1.15 for the win here and it’s unlikely they will let Burton Albion off the hook. Another comfortable victory is on the cards and I’m happy to take City in the -2 handicap market at 2.05.

Gabriel Jesus is in tremendous form and scored four goals against Burton in the first leg. Expect the Brazilian striker to get plenty of opportunities and continue his scoring run with value in the first goalscorer and to score 2 or more goals markets.
