Liverpool vs Arsenal Predictions

Arsenal were woeful in a 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday. A reaction will be expected, but I'm backing Liverpool to edge to victory in the first leg of this semi-final.

  • Liverpool have won 7 of their last 8 home matches (all competitions).
  • Liverpool have won 6 their last 8 home matches against Arsenal (all competitions).
  • Arsenal have lost their last 2 matches (all competitions).
  • Arsenal have lost 4 of their last 6 away matches (all competitions).

Head to Head

Liverpool hold a 76-71 advantage across their previous 201 meetings with 53 draws.

The sides last met in November in the Premier League as Liverpool thumped Arsenal 4-0 win at Anfield.

Liverpool Form

Liverpool conceded first before recording a 3-1 win over Shrewsbury in third round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

It was a weakened Reds side from the one which had drawn 2-2 away at Chelsea a week earlier when throwing away a two-goal lead at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool Team News

Mohamed Salah, Naby Keita and Sadio Mane are on Africa Cup of Nations duty, while Thiago, Harvey Elliott and Nat Phillips are injured.

Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Divock Origi are rated doubtful, but Liverpool could be strengthened by the return of a number of players.

Arsenal Form

Arsenal were dumped out of the FA Cup third round on Sunday when losing 1-0 at Championship side Nottingham Forest following a dismal performance.

It was a second straight loss for Mikel Arteta's side, who went down 2-1 to Manchester City in a controversial game a week earlier.

Arsenal Team News

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mohamed Elneny, Nicolas Pepe and Thomas Partey are away at the Africa Cup of Nations.

There are still doubts over Takehiro Tomiyasu and Emile Smith Rowe, and Nuno Tavares is unlikely to be play after being hauled off in the first-half against Nottingham Forest.

Gabriel should be back after his suspension.

Verdict

Arsenal's struggles away from home continued when on the receiving end of an FA Cup giantkilling on Sunday. Mikel Arteta's side have to be better, but I'm predicting the same outcome and another away defeat at Liverpool.
