Premier League Newcastle United head to Mazuma Stadium looking to avoid a giantkilling at the hands of League Two Morecambe on Wednesday. Will it be plain sailing for the Magpies in the Carabao Cup third round?

Newcastle were excellent winners of their opening game of the season as goals from new signings Callum Wilson and Jeff Hendrick earned a 2-0 win over West Ham at the Olympic Stadium.

But the Magpies have put in two below-par performances at home since. They struggled past Blackburn 1-0 in the Carabao Cup second round thanks to Ryan Fraser's goal, and lost 3-0 to Brighton on Sunday after conceding twice in the opening seven minutes.

Martin Dubravka, Paul Dummett, Fabian Schar and Dwight Gayle all remain out, and they are joined on the sidelines by Allan Saint-Maximin, who is rested after limping out of Sunday's defeat.

Jamal Lewis will also sit out the trip to Morecambe after being kicked in the head against Brighton. Matty Longstaff is a possible to return from a thigh injury.

Steve Bruce has vowed to name a strong side with Fraser and Miguel Almiron likely starters having featured in the last round, and Matt Ritchie set to replace Lewis.
