  • Newcastle have won 8 of their last 12 home games.
  • Newcastle have won 2 consecutive home matches against Brentford.
  • Brentford have lost 6 of their previous 7 away games.

Head to Head

Newcastle have a 13-5 advantage against Brentford in 19 meetings with one draw. The Magpies were 1-0 winners when the sides last met at St James’ Park.

Newcastle Form

Newcastle edged past Nottingham Forest on penalties after a 1-1 draw in their opening EFL Cup game. They improved after a 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon and a 2-0 win against Chelsea, both at home.

The Toon beat Arsenal 1-0 and Nottingham Forest 3-1 following the Chelsea triumph. A four-match winless run followed with losses to West Ham and Brentford and draws with Palace and Liverpool.

Eddie Howe’s side were back to their best on Saturday during a one-sided 4-0 home win against Leicester. Newcastle had 3.95 XG and Jacob Murphy, Bruno Guimarães and Alexander Isak got on the scoresheet.

Newcastle Injuries & Team News

Midfielder Sean Longstaff is suspended and won’t feature on Wednesday.

Defenders Jamaal Lascelles, Sven Botman and Emil Krafth are injured and unavailable.

Striker Callum Wilson and goalkeeper Nick Pope are also out with respective injuries.

Brentford Form

Thomas Frank’s Brentford began their EFL Cup journey with a 1-0 win at Colchester and a 3-1 victory over Leyton Orient. The Premier League club then required penalties to overcome Sheffield Wednesday after a 1-1 draw.

The Bees’ form has been inconsistent since, with just three wins in seven, all coming at the Gtech. Brentford haven’t won away in this spell and have avoided defeat just once in their previous seven on the road.

The West London side lost their seventh away league fixture on Sunday, falling 2-1 at Chelsea. Frank’s team allowed 2.59 XG, conceded in each half and Bryan Mbeumo scored a consolation in the 89th minute.

Brentford Injuries & Team News

Forward Gustavo Nunes and midfielder Mathias Jensen are injured and won’t play here.

Defenders Rico Henry and Aaron Hickey and midfielder Josh Dasilva are also unavailable due to injury.

Attacker Kevin Schade scored in the previous round of the EFL Cup and has five goals in his last eight appearances.

Verdict

Newcastle dominated Leicester at home last time out and can build winning momentum against Brentford. The Bees’ recent away record is poor and the Magpies can take advantage with a cup win.
