Tottenham vs Liverpool Preview

Tottenham are low on confidence following some poor recent form and have loads of first-team players out injured. Even if Liverpool rotate, they are likely to have enough quality to seal a first-leg win over struggling Spurs.

  • Liverpool have won 4 away games in a row.

Head to Head

Liverpool have a 91-49 advantage against Tottenham in 184 meetings with 44 draws. The Reds beat Spurs 6-3 in December.

Tottenham Form

Tottenham progressed to the EFL Cup semi-final after beating Man United 4-3 at home in the previous round. The North London side haven’t won since then and are winless in four consecutive matches.

Spurs were thrashed 6-3 at home by Liverpool in their following game and then lost 1-0 at Nottingham Forest. Tottenham were also held to a 2-2 home draw against Premier League strugglers Wolves during their winless run.

Ange Postecoglou’s side suffered another defeat on Saturday, giving up a 1-0 lead and losing 2-1 against Newcastle. Dominic Solanke scored after three minutes but Tottenham allowed 2.43 XG and conceded twice in the first half.

Tottenham Injuries & Team News

Forward Rodrigo Bentancur is available for selection following his one-match ban.

Goalkeepers Guglielmo Vicario and Fraser Forster and forward Richarlison won’t make the squad due to injury.

Midfield pair Wilson Odobert and Mikey Moore are unavailable with injuries.

Defenders Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies, Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie are also injured and ruled out here.

Liverpool Form

Liverpool have eliminated three Premier League teams from the EFL Cup this season. Arne Slot’s team thrashed West Ham 5-1 and beat Brighton 3-2 before defeating Southampton 2-1.

The Reds won their following three league matches after the Southampton cup triumph. They routed Spurs 6-3 away and comfortably beat Leicester 3-1 and West Ham 5-0.

The Merseysiders’ winning streak came to an end following a 2-2 home draw with rivals Man United on Sunday. Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah responded to United’s second-half opener before Liverpool shipped a 79th-minute equaliser.

Liverpool Injuries & Team News

Defender Joe Gomez is Liverpool’s only absentee. He is sidelined with a thigh injury.

Top scorer Mo Salah is likely to be rested here. Gakpo is expected to start after scoring in three consecutive matches.

Verdict

Tottenham are all over the place defensively and in-form Liverpool can take advantage. It’s worth backing a Reds victory in North London as Slot’s side eye a spot in the EFL Cup final.
