Wycombe are among the highest scorers in League One this season and Aston Villa often hit the net. The Chairboys will be confident of scoring at home but a win over in-form Villa is unlikely.

Head to Head

Aston Villa have a 3-0 advantage against Wycombe in four meetings with one draw. Villa have scored 16 total goals against the Chairboys in these four encounters.

Wycombe Form

Wycombe started their EFL Cup run with a 2-0 victory over Northampton and a 1-0 win against Championship Swansea.

The League One side are unbeaten since the Swansea triumph, drawing once and winning three. A 2-2 Blackpool draw was followed by a 2-1 win against Northampton and a 5-3 victory over Brighton under-21s.

The Chairboys extend their winning run to three with a 2-1 home win against Cambridge. Wycombe were dominant with 18-4 shots and Gareth McCleary and Cameron Humphreys hit the net.

Wycombe Injuries

Forward Gideon Kodua, Sam Vokes and Brandon Hanlan are injured and unlikely to feature.

Goalkeeper Nathan Bishop and defender Ryan Tafazolli are ruled out.

Aston Villa Form

Aston Villa have won five of their first six fixtures of the 2024/25 campaign in all competitions. The Midlands outfit have also struck 13 goals in the new season.

Unai Emery’s side have won four matches on the spin, including away victories over Leicester (2-1) and Young Boys (3-0).

The Villans continued their winning run with a 3-1 triumph against Wolves and Villa dominated with 2.37 XG. Despite trailing 1-0 at halftime, Ollie Watkins, Ezri Konsa and Jhon Duran hit back to complete the comeback win.

Aston Villa Injuries

Captain John McGinn is doubtful after coming off early during the Wolves match.

Defender Matty Cash and midfielder Jaden Philogene are unavailable due to long-term injuries.

Verdict

Wycombe and Aston Villa are dangerous in attack and goals are expected in this EFL Cup clash. Villa should eventually have too much class for their League One opponents in a likely high scorer.
