English League One
The English Football League One (currently known as Sky Bet League One for sponsorship reasons) is the third tier of the English football league system.
Previously known as the Football League Second Division, the competition was also called the Football League Third Division prior to the establishment of the Premier League. The competition has been known as League One since the 2004–05 season.
Walsall have been in League One the longest having been promoted from League Two in 2006–07. There are currently seven former Premier League clubs competing in League One, these being Sunderland, Blackpool, Portsmouth, Barnsley, Bradford City, Charlton Athletic and Coventry City.
24 clubs contest League One with every club playing each other home and away. The top two clubs after 46 games are promoted to the English Championship with the final promotion spot going to the winner of the play-offs between the clubs that finish 3rd–6th.
The four clubs at the bottom of League One at the end of the season are relegated to League Two.
