Head-to-Head

Bolton have an 18-14 advantage against Barnsley in 49 meetings with 17 draws.

Barnsley Form

Barnsley edged into a sixth-placed finish in League One after taking just two points from their last six.

The Tykes held Reading to a 2-2 draw before consecutive defeats at Portsmouth and Blackpool (3-2). Barnsley then completed their season with a 1-1 home stalemate against Northampton.

The Yorkshire outfit took an early lead through Herbie Kane in the 18th minute. Martin Devaney’s side couldn’t build momentum, had just seven shots and conceded in second-half injury time.

Barnsley Injuries & Team News

Barnsley have no injuries or suspensions.

Top scorer Devante Cole is expected to lead the line after notching 18 league goals this season.

Bolton Form

Bolton missed out on automatic promotion from League One and dropped points in three of their last four matches. The Trotters finished third and were four points off the top two.

Bolton drew three of their final four fixtures against Portsmouth (1-1), Shrewsbury (2-2) and Peterborough (3-3).

Kyle Dempsey and Dion Charles put Bolton 2-0 up after eight minutes at Peterborough. The Trotters shipped three after half time before Cameron Jerome’s late leveller earned Bolton a point.

Bolton Injuries & Team News

Forwards Carlos Gomes and Daniel Nlundulu and defender Caleb Taylor are out.

Verdict

There is little between Barnsley and Bolton and neither side will want to lose in the first leg. A tight play-off encounter is expected, with a draw likely.
