Blackpool vs Oxford Predictions

Blackpool have a 3-0 aggregate lead against Oxford heading into the second leg of the League One playoffs. The Tangerines outplayed the U’s at the Kassam Stadium and Ellis Simms put in a man of the match performance with two goals.

I am backing another Blackpool win at Bloomfield Road and in-form Simms to score again.

  • Blackpool have won to nil in their last 5 matches (League One).
  • Blackpool have seen BTTS No in their last 9 matches (League One).
  • Blackpool’s Ellis Simms has scored 5 goals in his last 3 matches (League One).
  • Blackpool have won to nil in their last 2 matches against Oxford (League One).
  • Blackpool have won 3 of their last 5 matches against Oxford (League One).
  • Oxford have failed to score in their last 3 matches against Blackpool (League One).
  • Oxford have lost 4 of their last 6 away matches (League One).

Head-to-Head

Blackpool have a 17-11 advantage against Oxford in 36 meetings with eight draws.

Blackpool’s 3-0 away win against Oxford in the first leg extended their unbeaten run against the U’s to three matches following a 2-0 win and a 0-0 draw in the regular season.

Blackpool Form

Blackpool extended their winning streak to five matches following their 3-0 win against Oxford.

The Tangerines recorded wins to nil against Sunderland, Northampton, Doncaster and Bristol Rovers in the regular season before a comfortable first-leg victory against Oxford in the playoffs.

Neil Critchley’s side faced early pressure from the U’s before Oliver Turton and Ellis Simms scored two quickfire goals in the first half. Blackpool frustrated Oxford with some resilient defending before Simms scored again on the counter-attack with 15 minutes left.

Simms has been in excellent form late in the season, scoring five of Blackpool’s last six goals in his last three matches.

Blackpool Injuries & Team News

Defender Daniel Gretarsson is ruled out with a shoulder injury.

Oxford Form

Oxford’s run of three consecutive wins came to an end following the 3-0 loss to Blackpool on Tuesday evening.

It was the first time in 10 matches where Oxford failed to score as they were frustrated by a rigid Blackpool. The U’s had 57% possession but struggled to create any clear-cut chances and hit the target once.

Karl Robinson’s side ended the regular League One season in good form, winning six of their last seven matches and making the playoffs on goal difference.

Away form has been an issue for the U’s. They lost four of their last six on the road, including a 1-0 loss against Northampton and a 2-1 defeat to League One strugglers AFC Wimbledon.

Oxford Injuries & Team News

Defender John Mousinho and midfielder Marcus McGuane are unavailable due to injury.

Verdict

Oxford were stunned by Blackpool’s clinical finishing in the first leg and they will struggle to break down a resolute Blackpool side at Bloomfield Road.

With the Tangerines in excellent form, I am tipping a home win and Ellis Simms to score.
