Gillingham and Oxford clash in the early kick off in League One on Saturday at the Priestfield Stadium. Oxford have belatedly got their season up and running, but can they continue that with a win at Gillingham?

Gillingham Form

Steve Evans will be encouraged by the start Gillingham have made to the League One season, collecting seven points from a possible 12.

The Gills lost their opening game of the league season 2-0 at home to Hull, but the signs have been much more positive since then with two wins and a draw.

They came out on the right side of a five-goal thriller at Wigan 3-2, beat Blackpool 2-0 at home and then drew 1-1 at Shrewsbury last week.

In cup competitions, Gillingham were beaten 1-0 by Stoke in third round of the Carabao Cup after wins over Southend and Coventry (on penalties). In the EFL Trophy, the Gills beat Crawley but lost to Ipswich on Tuesday.

Gillingham Team News

Gillingham are without Tom O'Connor due to international duty, and Kyle Dempsey and Scott Robertson remain sidelined. Alex MacDonald came through the midweek game against Ipswich, but is likely to remain on the bench.

Oxford Form

Oxford had the weekend off from League One action last week after the postponement of their game when Crewe's Omar Beckles tested positive for Covid-19.

Karl Robinson's side had suffered back-to-back league defeats to start the season following their play-off final defeat. They lost 2-0 to both Lincoln and Sunderland, but bounced back with a 4-1 victory over Accrington two weeks ago.

United have recorded wins in both EFL Trophy games including a 2-1 win over Chelsea U21s and a penalty shootout victory over Bristol Rovers on Tuesday. They also got past AFC Wimbledon on penalties in the Carabao Cup before losing a shootout to Watford.

Oxford Team News

Oxford are set to welcome back Josh Ruffels, Alex Gorrin and Sam Winnall from injury. Rob Atkinson is a doubt after picking up an injury in the midweek win over Bristol Rovers.

Verdict

Oxford have a good record against Gillingham, but haven't won on their last three visits to the Priestfield. A draw looks the value, while under 2.5 goals is the best bet.
