Gillingham vs Wigan Predictions

While Wigan have seen an improvement in form of late, they still remain in the relegation zone and this is a tough trip to the Priestfield Stadium.

Gillingham have won three of their last four home matches and come into this having held leaders Hull at the weekend. The Gills should have too much firepower for Wigan.

  • Gillingham have won 3 of their last 4 home matches (League One).
  • Gillingham have scored 2+ goals in their last 4 home matches (League One).
  • Gillingham have seen over 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 8 home matches (League One).
  • Gillingham have seen over 3.5 goals in 6 of their last 8 home matches (League One).
  • Wigan have lost 9 of their last 15 matches (League One).

Head-to-Head

Gillingham were 3-2 winners against Wigan in September with a Jordan Graham double contributing to the victory.

Over the last 10 meetings, Wigan hold a 5-4 advantage with one draw.

Gillingham Form

Gillingham have been enjoying a solid run of form, particularly at home, and can move into the top six with victory on Wednesday.

Steve Evans' side have recorded wins over Bristol Rovers, MK Dons and Ipswich at home as well as a 2-2 draw most recently when hosting Doncaster.

The draw with Doncaster was followed by another stalemate as Gillingham held League One leaders Hull to a 1-1 draw away on Saturday.

Substitute Olly Lee's second-half goal cancelled out Tom Eaves' early opener for Hull.

Gillingham Team News

Forward Olly Lee is pushing for a start after scoring the equaliser from the bench against Hull.

Fellow striker Dominic Samuel played his first game since December with a five-minute cameo and should be on the bench again.

Defender Robbie Cundy missed the trip to Hull and Tom O'Connor is on standby to retain his place in the starting line-up.

Callum Slattery is closing in on a return to action, but this game will come too soon.

Wigan Form

Wigan have enjoyed an upturn in fortunes in March with two wins, two draws and two defeats across the month, but they remain in the bottom four.

The Latics recorded back-to-back wins over MK Dons and Plymouth, but haven't won any of their three games since.

A 1-1 draw at fellow strugglers AFC Wimbledon was followed by a 3-1 defeat at Accrington.

On Saturday, Wigan held Ipswich to a 0-0 draw at home.

Wigan Team News

Defender Scott Wootton missed the weekend draw with Ipswich and has been ruled out for the season.

A groin injury also kept Jamie Proctor out at the weekend and he is unlikely to return on Wednesday.

Viv Solomon-Otabor is managing a knee injury and may not start at Gillingham after playing 83 minutes on Saturday.

Verdict

Gillingham have emerged as genuine play-off candidates and can move into the top six with a 3-1 win.

The Gills have plenty of goals in them, and they should have too much firepower for Wigan. Over 2.5 and over 3.5 goals offer value.
