Lincoln vs Sunderland Predictions

Lincoln and Sunderland have been in poor form and both drew regularly towards the end of the season. They have leaked a lot of goals so I am backing a draw and BTTS in the first leg.

  • Lincoln have drawn 2 of their last 3 matches (League One)
  • Lincoln are winless in 10 of their last 14 matches (League One)
  • Lincoln have seen BTTS in 6 of their last 10 home matches (League One)
  • Lincoln are winless in 8 of their last 10 matches against Sunderland (all competitions)
  • Sunderland have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 10 matches (League One)
  • Sunderland have drawn 3 of their last 5 matches (League One)
  • Sunderland are winless in 8 of their last 9 matches (League One)

Head-to-Head

Sunderland have a 6-4 advantage against Lincoln in 13 meetings with three draws. The last two matches between the sides have ended in 1-1 draws.

Lincoln Form

Lincoln ended the regular season with a three-match winless run. The Imps drew 3-3 at Peterborough before a 3-1 loss to Charlton and a 0-0 draw at home to AFC Wimbledon on the final day.

Lincoln had the better chances with 16 shots and 52% possession but they were unable to find a way through Wimbledon's defence.

The Imps have been around the top of League One all season and were in the automatic promotion places after winning 10 of their first 15 matches.

Lincoln scraped into the playoffs on 77 points despite just four wins in their final 14 league matches.

Lincoln Injuries & Team News

Defender Joe Walsh picked up a knock in training but is likely to feature in the squad.

Sunderland Form

Sunderland drew 1-1 at home with Northampton in their final league match of the season.

The Black Cats were on top for large spells with 65% possession and 10 shots. Northampton scored with five minutes left and Carl Winchester’s 87th-minute close-range finish earned Sunderland a point.

Sunderland were winless in eight of their last nine matches in League One. They secured a playoff place after score draws against Hull, Accrington and a 3-1 win away at Plymouth.

The North East side have been in and out of the automatic promotion places throughout the season following inconsistent form.

Verdict

Lincoln and Sunderland struggled to win late in the season and both sides have poor defensive records.

With both teams out of form, I am tipping a draw and BTTS.
