Colchester United vs Walsall Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Darrell Clarke takes his struggling Walsall side to Colchester United this Saturday afternoon. The Saddlers have found life difficult since dropping down to English League Two and are likely to face another defeat.

Colchester Form & Team News

Colchester United come into Saturday’s game on the back of three consecutive league and cup wins. Their last outing was a 1-0 win away at Oldham Atheltic with Frank Nouble grabbing the winner.

The U’s are 14th in the League Two table after winning two, drawing two and losing two of their opening six matches. The club will be confident ahead of Saturday’s game though as they have won their last four competitive fixtures, including a notable win over Premier League Crystal Palace. They have also managed to keep clean sheets in three of those four matches.

Manager John McGreal has several new faces to choose from for his team’s game against Walsall. Theo Robinson was an unused sub against Oldham but could make an appearance on Saturday. Freddie Hinds and Brendan Wiredu have both been brought in and are likely to make an appearance in some capacity. Frank Nouble should retain his place up front.

Colchester are priced at 1.90 with bet365 to win the match. The U’s are slowly gaining some momentum and this offers excellent value.

Walsall Form & Team News

Walsall have been in free fall since being relegated from League One at the end of last season. The Saddlers have only won one of their opening six games, drawing two and losing the other three.

They come into this game after losing five of their last six matches in all competitions. They also drew a blank in four of those encounters. Their last league match was a difficult 3-1 defeat at home to Grimsby, with Caolan Lavery grabbing the Saddlers’ only goal.

Darrell Clarke has made 17 signings for the club over the summer but brought in no extra signings on deadline day. Danny Guthrie is still working his way back to full fitness and may be given more time for the side on Saturday. Matt Sadler is likely to hold his place at centre-back while Lavery should stay upfront after his goal against Grimsby.

Walsall are priced at 4.00 with bet365 to pick up the match which isn’t a surprise given their current run of form.

Colchester United vs Walsall Head to Head

Colchester and Walsall have played each other a total of 28 times. Colchester have won 12, while Walsall are one behind on 11. The last time they played each other ended in a 2-1 win for Walsall in 2016.

Colchester United vs Walsall Match Up

Colchester United are starting to find their feet this season while Walsall have landed in the division with a thud. Darrell Clarke has made some major changes to his squad and they are not settling well at the moment. Colchester should be able to pick up another home win here.
