Salford City vs Stevenage Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Salford City make their long anticipated football league debut on Saturday when they welcome Stevenage to Moor Lane. The Ammies begin their first-ever football league campaign as one of the early favourites for promotion and I think they can start with a win against Stevenage.

Salford City FC Form & Team News

Salford achieved promotion from the National League at the first time of asking. The Ammies' meteoric rise up the divisions has seen them achieve promotions in four of the last five campaigns, and the club will start the season with a budget that will dwarf a lot of the competition in League Two, as is reflected in some of their Summer signings.

Graham Alexander’s are in a great position to keep their momentum going following their confident 3-0 play-off victory against AFC Fylde back in May. The Class of 92 backed club have recruited well during the summer with former Rotherham midfielder Richie Towell a particularly strong signing.

Star striker Adam Rooney will be a force for The Ammies in League Two this year. The Irish born striker bagged 22 goals for the club last campaign and is expected to be a key player as the club look to secure yet another promotion this season.

Bookies are currently offering odds of 1.75 for Salford to win their first-ever three points in League Two against Stevenage.

Stevenage FC Form & Team News

Stevenage finished last season strong, losing only one of their final 10 league games and narrowly missing out on the play-offs on the final day. The Boro have kept the majority of their squad together and have recruited well with Chris Stokes an excellent piece of business.

Stokes achieved back to back promotions from League Two in the last two seasons with Coventry and Bury. Beginning the league against one of the division’s most fancied sides is not what Dino Maamria’s side would have wanted, and odds as long as 4.90 clearly reflect that.

A draw shouldn’t be ruled out with Stevenage potentially being a side who could shock a few this season. The best odds on a draw for the game are currently at 3.60.

This will be the first match between Salford City and Stevenage.

Salford City vs Stevenage Match Up

All eyes will be on Salford’s Adam Rooney as the highly-rated striker aims to build on his goal-scoring exploits from last season. The former Aberdeen marksman bagged 22 goals for The Ammies last season and will be a handful for the Stevenage defence.

Stevenage have failed to score in three of their last five pre-season matches, and with Salford now boasting a new and improved defence they may find it tricky to get on the score sheet.

Salford City vs Stevenage Key Statistics

  • Salford City have won 10 of their last 14 competitive home matches (National League).
  • Salford City have kept 4 clean sheets in their last 7 home matches (National League).
  • Salford City striker Adam Rooney scored 22 goals last season.
  • Stevenage have failed to score in 3 of their last 5 matches (friendlies).

Verdict

Salford will want to put on a show with the TV cameras being present and should have enough in the tank to secure their first three points in League Two.

Post bet analysis

Salford got it done with two goals to Emmanuel Dieseruvwe in a 2-0 win. We missed out on the correct score by the narrowest of margins but will take the 2 unit profit from this match.
