Arsenal vs Ipswich Preview

Ipswich haven’t won a single point against upper-table teams this month. Arsenal looked fantastic in last weekend’s 5-1 win at Crystal Palace, so I will back the Gunners to get ahead early and win this match HT-FT.

Stats

  • Arsenal have won 7 of their last 9 matches.
  • Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus has scored 5 goals in his last 2 matches.
  • Ipswich have lost 4 of their last 5 matches.

Head to Head

Arsenal have a 28-16 advantage against Ipswich with 10 draws in 54 matches.

They last met in January 2011, the game being won by Arsenal 3-0.

Arsenal Form

Arsenal secured four victories in their six matches played this month, both of the games they didn’t win were against underdogs in the Premier League where they sit 3rd, six points behind the leaders Liverpool.

Mike Arteta’s side beat Man Utd 2-0 in their December premiere appearance, followed by a 1-1 draw at Fulham, William Saliba appearing on the scoresheet in both matches.

After beating Monaco 3-0 in the Champions League, the Gunners disappointed with a goalless draw against Everton at home.

They secured victories in their last two matches, defeating Crystal Palace 3-2 in the Carabao Cup and then thrashing the Eagles 5-1 in the Premier League last weekend, with Gabriel Jesus scoring five goals across the two games.

Arsenal Injuries & Team News

Defenders Oleksandr Zinchenko, Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu have been injured since last month.

Bukayo Saka was substituted early last weekend against Crystal Palace, suffering a hamstring injury.

Raheem Sterling is also out with a knee injury.

Ipswich Form

A couple of rough weeks are behind Ipswich who lost four of their last five Premier League encounters and currently sit inside the relegation zone.

Kieran McKenna’s side started this month with two back to back home defeats to Crystal Palace 1-0 and AFC Bournemouth 2-1, Conor Chaplin being the sole scorer.

The Tractor Boys returned to winning ways with a 2-1 road win against another relegation zone resident Wolves but they got crushed last weekend at home by Newcastle 4-0, ending the match with 0.70-2.31 expected goals, 41% possession and 10-15 shots.

Ipswich Injuries & Team News

Sam Morsy is suspended.

George Hirst, Axel Tuanzebe and Chiedozie Ogbene are ruled out due to injuries.

Janoi Donacien is doubtful due to an ankle injury.

Liam Delap is having a great season so far, scoring six goals in his 16 league appearances, while also registering one assist.

Verdict

Ipswich are in poor form and one of the main relegation candidates this season. I will back Arsenal to gain advantage early and win this match HT-FT. In-form Gabriel Jesus is also backed to score.
