Arsenal Form

Arsenal have hit a downturn in form and the Gunners have failed to win in five of their last six league games. Mikel Arteta’s side are second in the Premier League and lead third-place Newcastle by two points.

The Gunners were in title contention and also reached the Champions League semi-final. A five-match winless run, including three defeats, ended Arsenal’s silverware hopes.

The North Londoners lost three in a row before bouncing back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Liverpool. Arteta’s outfit conceded twice in the opening 21 minutes and Gabriel Martinelli and Mikel Merino responded in the second half.

Arsenal Injuries & Team News

Mikel Merino was sent off against Liverpool and is suspended.

Forward Gabriel Jesus and defensive pair Takehiro Tomiyasu and Gabriel Magalhães are injured.

Newcastle Form

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle have shot into Champions League qualification contention in the Premier League. The Toon have won seven of their last nine and occupy third place, with a three-point cushion inside the top five.

Newcastle put together a five-match winning run streak before losing 4-1 at Aston Villa. The Magpies hit back with a 3-0 victory against Ipswich and a 1-1 draw at Brighton.

The Tyneside team boosted their top-five push with a solid 2-0 win against Chelsea on Sunday. Howe’s side had 1.67-0.65 XG and goals from Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães secured all three points.

Newcastle Injuries & Team News

Defenders Kieran Trippier, Matt Targett and Lewis Hall won’t feature due to injury.

Midfield duo Joe Willock and Joelinton are also out with injuries.

Jacob Murphy is likely to start after registering five assists and three goals in his last nine appearances.

Verdict

Arsenal’s form and confidence has dipped late in the Premier League campaign. Newcastle have momentum after strong recent performances and the Toon can take at least a point off the Gunners.
