Head to Head

Aston Villa have a 32-29 advantage against Southampton in 84 meetings with 23 draws. The Villans beat the Saints 1-0 in the most recent encounter.

Aston Villa Form

Aston Villa remain within touching distance of the Premier League’s top four. They are seventh and just three points behind fourth-placed Man City.

Unai Emery’s side lost ground in the top-four race after taking just five points from their last six league games. All of these points have come at home following a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth and a 2-2 stalemate against Palace.

Villa lost 3-0 at Chelsea after the Palace draw but ended their winless run with a 3-1 home win against Brentford. The Villans dominated with 3.22-1.13 XG and Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins and Matty Cash got on the scoresheet.

Aston Villa Injuries & Team News

Midfielder Amadou Onana is expected to return to action following an ankle injury.

Jacob Ramsey won’t feature as he is still recovering from a hamstring issue.

Ollie Watkins is likely to keep his place in attack. The striker has three goals and an assist in his last five for club and country.

Southampton Form

Russell Martin’s Southampton are bottom of the Premier League and seven points from safety. The Saints have suffered a league-high 11 defeats and conceded 30 goals in 14 matches this season.

The South Coast club’s only win was a 1-0 home victory over Everton. Southampton are winless in four games since then with three losses, one draw and 11 goals conceded.

The Saints were thrashed 5-1 at home against Chelsea on Wednesday. Joe Aribo cancelled out Chelsea’s early goal before Southampton allowed 5.83 XG and shipped four more goals.

Southampton Injuries & Team News

Defender Jack Stephens is suspended after his sending-off against Chelsea.

Midfield trio Juan Larios, William Smallbone and Adam Lallana are unavailable due to injury.

Goalkeepers Aaron Ramsdale and Gavin Bazunu and striker Ross Stewart are also ruled out with injuries.

Verdict

Aston Villa have enough quality to brush aside a Southampton team that can’t get to grips with the Premier League. The Saints have a lot of key players out and Villa can cruise to another one-sided home victory.
