Aston Villa vs Wolves Predictions

Wolves’ five match unbeaten also came to an end with a 4-1 away loss to Man City. A second defeat of the week is predicted with Aston Villa winning a low-scoring affair.

  • Aston Villa have won 3 of their last 5 home matches (Premier League).
  • Aston Villa have seen under 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 10 matches (Premier League).
  • Wolves have seen under 2.5 goals in 4 of their last 6 matches (All competitions).
  • Wolves are winless in 4 of their last 5 away matches (Premier League).

Head-to-Head

In 129 meetings between the two sides, Aston Villa hold a 56-41 advantage over Wolves, with 32 games drawn.

Villa edged the reverse fixture 1-0 at Molineux this season. Anwar El Ghazi’s penalty in the 93rd minute gave Dean Smith’s a dramatic late victory.

Aston Villa Form

Aston Villa lost 1-0 away to Sheffield United on Wednesday, leaving them with one win in their last four Premier League matches.

Villa had 70% possession and 16 shots on goal but David McGoldrick’s early goal was enough to give the Blades a rare victory.

Villa have won three of their last five Premier League matches and three of their last five at home too and will welcome a return to Villa Park.

Aston Villa Injuries and Team News

Villa captain Jack Grealish remains doubtful ahead of the Wolves game due to a lower leg injury. Grealish has missed the last two games, but is set to return to training this week.

Matty Cash, Kortney Hause and Wesley are all ruled out for Villa this weekend.

With a lack of goals scored in recent games, Dean Smith could be tempted to bring Ross Barkley in a more attacking role in place of the underperforming Jacob Ramsey.

Wolves Form

Wolves’ five match unbeaten run ended with a 4-1 loss to Premier League Man City on Tuesday.

Wolves looked to be heading for a 1-1 draw against City. Conor Coady’s second half goal levelled out Leander Dendoncker’s early own goal, but three City goals in the last 10 minutes handed Wolves a defeat.

In their last six Premier League games, Wolves have won three, drawn two and lost once.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have struggled away from home recently. They have won once in their last nine away games and gained just six points from their last 27 available on the road.

Wolves Injuries and Team News

Wolves will be without Raul Jimenez, Daniel Podence and Fernando Marcel, who are all ruled out through injury.

Nuno Espirito Santo made one change for the 4-1 loss to City, replacing striker Willian Jose with defender Ki-Jana Hoever.

Wolves are likely to stick with an unchanged side this weekend after a largely positive performance against Man City, despite the three late goals.

Verdict

Aston Villa have been edging results by the odd goal and they should see off a Wolves side with poor away form.
