Everton vs Newcastle Preview

Everton are gradually building momentum and will be confident after sealing their first win of the campaign on Saturday. Newcastle drop points often on the road and a Toffees double chance at Goodison Park looks a solid pick.

Head to Head

Everton have a 76-71 advantage against Newcastle in 184 meetings with 37 draws. The Toffees beat Newcastle 3-0 in the most recent clash at Goodison Park.

Everton Form

Everton were bottom of the Premier League after losing four matches in a row to start the new season.

Since a 3-2 loss at Aston Villa, the Merseyside club have put together a three-match unbeaten run. Sean Dyche’s side drew 1-1 against Southampton in the EFL Cup and had the same scoreline away at Leicester.

The Toffees continued their upturn in form with a 2-1 comeback victory against Crystal Palace at Goodison Park. Everton trailed 1-0 before Dwight McNeil led his side to a first win of the campaign with a second-half brace.

Everton Injuries

Defensive pair Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson are injured and unlikely to feature.

Forward duo Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti are ruled out due to injury.

Newcastle Form

Newcastle have made a solid start to the 2024/25 Premier League season. The Toon have won and drawn twice and lost once in the league.

Eddie Howe’s side have struggled for away form, drawing 1-1 at Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth and losing 3-1 at Fulham. These results came before a 1-1 home stalemate against Man City.

The Magpies won again on Tuesday, beating AFC Wimbledon 1-0 in the EFL Cup at St James’ Park. Newcastle dominated with 18-2 shots, 79% possession and Fabian Schar converted a first-half penalty.

Newcastle Injuries

Striker Callum Wilson and midfielder Lewis Miley remain sidelined with injuries.

Defensive duo Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman are also unavailable.

Verdict

Everton will look to build form after more positive results in their previous two league matches. Newcastle haven’t been great away from home this season and a Toffees double-chance result is good value.
