Liverpool football friendly

Liverpool face Aston Villa on Sunday as they return to Anfield for the first time since being crowned English Premier League champions. The hosts should have too much quality for Villa but I expect The Claret and Blue to put up a decent fight.

Liverpool Form

Liverpool did not return to the Premier League after the break quite as dominant as the left it. First up they drew 0-0 at Goodison Park against Everton before thrashing Crystal Palace 4-0 at home.

That victory was enough to confirm Liverpool as the 2019/20 Premier League champions. Unfortunately the wheels came off against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last time out.

City raced into a 3-0 lead by the break and then added another in the second half to secure a 4-0 win. That result may just be enough to make Jurgen Klopp’s charges realise that they cannot take the foot off the gas.

Liverpool News

Liverpool have a near full-strength squad to be from with centre-back Joel Matip and attacker Xherdan Shaqiri the only confirmed absentees.

Aston Villa Form

Aston Villa have a bumpy road ahead as they find themselves in the bottom three of the Premier League. They returned after the break with a home 0-0 draw against Sheffield United but then lost 2-1 at Villa Park to Chelsea.

That defeat was followed by a credible 1-1 draw at St James’ Park against Newcastle but Villa lost their last match 1-0 at home to Wolves.

Aston Villa News

Defender Bjorn Engels, striker Wesley and goalkeeper Tom Heaton are all confirmed absentees for this clash.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa Head to Head

Liverpool hold an 84-51 advantage over Aston Villa along with 36 draws in their 171 previous encounters.

They last met in the League Cup on 17 December 2019 where Aston Villa won 5-0 at Villa Park. Liverpool fielded a very young side as their squad was away at the FIFA World Club Cup at the time.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa Odds

Liverpool are priced at 1.33 to win with Aston Villa available at 8.00 with bet365. A draw can be backed at 5.00.

BTTS Yes is paying 1.75 and No 2.00 while over 2.5 goals will get you odds of 1.50 and under 2.62.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa Match Up

Liverpool may have the title wrapped up but they will not want their season to go sour as they chase a record points tally. Villa, who are in a relegation scrap, will come out fighting so I expect to see them test the hosts.
