Head to Head

Newcastle have a narrow 39-38 advantage against Leeds with 18 draws in 95 matches.

Leeds won 5-2 at Elland Road in December. Newcastle’s Jeff Hendrick opened the scoring and Ciaran Clark made it 2-2, but Leeds scored three late goals to take the win.

Newcastle Form

Newcastle have been slipping down the table with massive pressure on Steve Bruce. They haven’t won since a 2-1 home win against West Brom on 12 December.

The Magpies took on Arsenal in the FA Cup. They took the match all the way in London but conceded twice in extra time after managing two shots on target.

Newcastle then lost 1-0 at Sheffield United, becoming the first team to lose to the Blades in the Premier League this season. Ryan Fraser was sent off in the 45th minute.

Newcastle took on Arsenal again in the Premier League and lost 3-0. They were completely outclassed at the Emirates, managing 34% possession and one shot on target.

Newcastle’s last match was a 2-0 defeat at Aston Villa. Bruce’s side were outclassed once again, creating just 0.40 expected goals.

Newcastle Injuries & Team News

Central defence is a problem for Newcastle with Federico Fernández injured and Ciaran Clark doubtful.

Jamal Lewis should continue at left back with Paul Dummett injured.

Right back DeAndre Yedlin has Visa issues and misses out.

Forward Allan Saint-Maximin should start after testing positive for COVID-19 last month.

Leeds Form

Leeds won 1-0 at home against Burnley after Patrick Bamford’s early penalty, his 10th goal of the season. They backed it up with a 5-0 win at West Brom with goals to Ezgjan Alioski, Jack Harrison, Rodrigo and Raphinha.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have lost their last three matches without scoring a goal. Leeds lost 3-0 at Tottenham before a 3-0 defeat at League Two club Crawley in the FA Cup.

Leeds’ last match was a 1-0 home defeat to Brighton where they could only manage 0.25 expected goals.

Leeds Injuries & Team News

Centre-back Robin Koch and right back Gaetano Berardi are injured.

Midfielder Diego Llorente is still out.

Goalkeeper Illan Meslier is back in training and expected to replace Kiko Casilla in the starting side.

Verdict

Newcastle and Leeds are in poor form with this match a tricky prospect. The Magpies should relish a return to St. James' Park and can secure a draw with Allan Saint-Maximin returning to the starting side.
