Bookmakers are reporting ‘unusual levels of backing’ for Manchester United to be relegated this season.
United crashing out of the top flight would be the biggest shock in Premier League history, and William Hill are 250/1 about it happening this season.
That price has captured attention of punters and has left the bookies facing considerable losses if the Red Devils do go down.
“Nothing is impossible in the Premier League,” William Hill spokesperson Tony Kenny told FreeTips.com.
“And although Manchester United being relegated at 250/1 looks unlikely, we’ve seen more money for them in that market that I can remember and it currently stands as our biggest liability ahead of the new season.”
At the other end of the table, Tottenham Hotspur are the most backed team in the title race at 14/1, and at 4/6 they and Chelsea are the two best backed teams in the race for a top-four finish.
“Spurs’ impressive transfer window has also led to a significant level of support for them to win the title at 14/1,” Kenny added.
Newly-promoted Nottingham Forest represent the biggest liability for William Hill, at 750/1 to win the title in their first season back in the Premier League.
And in the race of the Golden Boot, Manchester City new-boy has been the most popular pick with customers at 11/4.
However, following his hat-trick in the pre-season rout of Sevilla, there has been a flurry of bets on Arsenal striker to finish the season as the top scorer at 12/1.
“Unsurprisingly, it’s Erling Haaland that is the best backed for the golden boot, while Gabriel Jesus has piqued interest.”
