West Brom vs Newcastle Predictions

West Brom’s recent form has improved under Sam Allardyce. The Baggies have lost one of their last four matches and conceded just two goals during that time.

Still nine points from safety, they can boost survival chances against a Newcastle side with two wins in the 15 and eight defeats in their last 10 away matches.

  • West Brom have lost 1 in last 4 home matches (Premier League).
  • West Brom have kept two clean sheets in their last three matches (Premier League).
  • Newcastle are winless in last three matches (Premier League).
  • Newcastle have lost 12 of their last 17 matches (all competitions).
  • Newcastle have lost 8 of their last 10 away matches (all competitions).
  • Newcastle have have failed to score in 7 of their last 9 away matches (all competitions).
  • Newcastle have kept one clean sheet in their last 12 matches (all competitions).

Head-to-Head

The two sides have met 132 times and both have won 49 matches each, with 34 ending in a draw.

Newcastle won the reverse fixture at St James’ Park 2-1 in December. Miguel Almiron scored in the first minute for the Magpies and Daniel Furlong levelled for the Baggies. But Dwight Gayle scored with 10 minutes left to earn all three points for Newcastle.

West Brom Form

West Brom were unable to build on their 1-0 win over Brighton at home last weekend when losing 1-0 to Everton on Thursday.

Richarlison’s second half goal was the difference between the sides in an even game. West Brom’s Mbaye Diagne found the net in the 93rd minute but it was ruled out by VAR for a narrow offside.

It was the Baggies' first loss in four games. The Midlands side have now scored and conceded two goals in their last four games.

West Brom have lost one of their last four games at the Hawthorns, winning one and drawing two during that run. They picked up points against Fulham and Man United.

West Brom Injuries and Team News

West Brom have a fully fit squad currently with no injuries or suspensions.

Sam Allardyce has named the same starting XI for the past two matches. Centre back Semi Ajayi returned to the bench for the Everton loss on Thursday after suspension.

Ajayi is unlikely to replace in form Dana O’Shea and Kyle Bartley in West Brom’s defensive line.

Newcastle Form

Newcastle’s winless run extended to three games last weekend as the Magpies drew 1-1 against Wolves.

Steve Bruce’s side dominated the game and took the lead early in the second half when Jamaal Lascelles headered in Ryan Fraser’s corner. But Ruben Neves equalised for Wolves with 15 minutes left.

The result leaves Newcastle three points above the relegation zone with just two wins in their last 17 matches in all competitions.

Newcastle have also lost eight of their last ten away from home in all competitions. They have conceded 21 goals and scored just four in this run.

Newcastle Injuries and Team News

Newcastle confirmed earlier this week that key players Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almirón will be ruled out until April with injury.

Top scorer Callum Wilson is also ruled out along with defenders Javi Manquillo and Fabian Schar.

Centre-back Federico Fernandez should be back in contention for Steve Bruce’s side this weekend.

Joelinton is likely to start up front and he could be partnered by Dwight Gayle or Andy Carroll in the absence of Saint-Maximin, Almiron and Wilson.

Martin Dubravka should keep his place in goal in favour of Karl Darlow, who was dropped for the Wolves game last weekend.

Verdict

West Brom have shown steady improvement under Sam Allardyce in recent weeks and should edge this relegation encounter. Newcastle look bereft of confidence and have one of the worst away records in the Premier League this season.
