West Ham vs Southampton Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Two of the poorest defences in the English Premier League meet as West Ham host Southampton at the London Stadium. Both teams have produced high scoring matches recently and the visitors have the in-form Danny Ings in their ranks.

West Ham Form

West Ham are coming off a 3-2 defeat at Liverpool in their previous Premier League fixture. They will feel their performance deserved more having put the league leaders under pressure for much of the match with Issa Diop and Pablo Fornals getting the goals.

The Hammers sit in the bottom three, one point from safety. The major problem for David Moyes’ men is an inability to keep things tight at the back with a 3-3 draw against Brighton and a 2-0 defeat to Man City among their recent results.

West Ham News

Defenders Ryan Fredericks is ruled out of Monday’s clash with a shoulder injury. Midfielders Andriy Yarmolenko and Jack Wilshere remain on the sidelines while January signing Jarrod Bowen will be hoping for a start after coming off the bench in the last two matches.

Southampton Form

After a string of poor results, Southampton returned to winning ways last Saturday as they claimed a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa. Shane Long opened the scoring early in the first half and they were made to wait until the 95th minute before Stuart Armstrong added the second.

Like West Ham, Southampton also struggle defensively with a 3-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and a 2-1 loss against Burnley mong their recent results. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men often attempt to balance things out in attack, particularly with Danny Ings who is their top scorer with 15 goals.

Southampton News

Southampton are without attacking midfielder Nathan Redmond who is sidelined with injury. Left back Kyle Walker-Peters is also expected to miss Monday’s match through injury.

West Ham vs Southampton Head to Head

West Ham vs Southampton Match Up

Centre back Issa Diop has scored three goals in his last six matches and is often a threat at set pieces for the Hammers. West Ham will also look to the pace and movement of Felipe Anderson and Robert Snodgrass who have impressed in recent weeks.

Danny Ings will be the one to watch for Southampton as he looks to add to his 15 goals this season. He has also found the net six times in his last 10 Premier League matches and is expected to cause the West Ham defence plenty of problems.
