Chelsea vs Liverpool Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Chelsea continue their quest for domestic silverware as they host Premier League leaders Liverpool in an FA Cup fifth round clash at Stamford Bridge. The Reds are reeling from a heavy defeat at Watford while Chelsea have struggled in defence, a punt on the goals markets makes sense here.

Chelsea Form

Chelsea progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup after claiming a 2-1 victory over Championship team Hull thanks to goals from Fikayo Tomori and Michy Batshuayi. Their form has been patchy since that win but are still unbeaten in nine of their last 12 matches.

The Blues head into Tuesday’s match off the back of a 2-2 Premier League draw at Bournemouth on Saturday with Marcos Alonso getting both goals. Frank Lampard’s men often struggle to keep things tight at the back and are without a clean sheet in their last eight matches.

Chelsea News

Striker Tammy Abraham remains sidelined with injury so Olivier Giroud is likely to retain his place in attack. Wingers Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi are also ruled out while goalkeeper Willy Caballero is likely to continue in place of Kepa Arizabalaga, despite conceding 11 goals in his last six matches.

Liverpool Form

Liverpool needed a replay before seeing off League One club Shrewsbury Town in the previous round of the FA Cup. They were held to a 2-2 draw in the first fixture before returning to Anfield to claim a 1-0 victory.

The Reds suffered their first defeat in the EPL this season after losing 3-0 at Watford on Saturday. Despite the result, Jurgen Klopp’s men remain one of the form teams in England having gone unbeaten in 13 of their last 15 matches in all competitions.

The major problem for Liverpool in recent weeks has been a defensive vulnerability. They are without a clean sheet in their last three matches and have conceded five goals in their last two.

Liverpool News

Liverpool have featured the youngsters in the cup competitions this season but are likely to find a balance in personnel against Chelsea. Senior players like Joel Matip, James Milner and Divock Origi are likely to provide some experience to the team.

Chelsea vs Liverpool Head to Head

Liverpool have a 79-59 advantage with 41 draws from 174 previous matches against Chelsea.

There has been BTTS in four of the last five meetings with the Reds claiming a 2-1 Premier League victory at Stamford Bridge back in September. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino got the goals for Liverpool while N’golo Kante was on Target for Chelsea.

Chelsea vs Liverpool Betting Odds

Chelsea are favourites among bookmakers with William Hill offering 2.15 for a home win while a victory for Liverpool is priced at 3.00. A draw is set at 4.20 at betfair while bet365 is offering 1.66 for BTTS Yes which had been the outcome in four of the last five meetings.

Chelsea produced over 3.5 goals in their last fixture and a similar outcome is priced at 2.95 at Unibet, who are also offering 1.72 for over 2.5 goals.

Chelsea vs Liverpool Match Up

Marcos Alonso has carried a real attacking threat for Chelsea from left back with scored three goals in his last two matches. Olivier Giroud is also expected to trouble Liverpool with his aerial and physical presence.

Midfielder Curtis Jones has been the star of the FA Cup for Liverpool having scored twice in his last three appearances in the competition. Striker Divock Origi should also cause the Chelsea backline plenty of problems with his pace and movement.
