Preston Form

Preston started their 2024/25 FA Cup run with a 2-1 home victory over Charlton. They also edged past Wycombe on penalties following a 1-1 draw and beat Burnley 3-0.

The Lillywhites’ form dipped after the Burnley win and the Lancashire side were winless in three. Draws with Swansea 0-0 and Sunderland 1-1 came either side of a 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United.

PNE notched just their second win in eight games before the March internationals, beating Portsmouth 2-1 at home. Preston had six shots on target and Ryan Porteous and Stefán Thórdarson scored in the final 14 minutes.

Forward Sam Greenwood was sent off against Portsmouth and is suspended.

Defender Kaine Kesler Hayden cannot play against his parent club and is unavailable.

Aston Villa Form

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa saw off Premier League opponents in their first two FA Cup matches this season. Consecutive 2-1 cup victories at Villa Park came against West Ham and Tottenham.

Villa beat Cardiff 2-0 at home in the previous round, which started a four-match winning streak in all competitions. The Villans notched a 3-1 Champions League win at Club Brugge and a 1-0 triumph at Brentford.

The Midlands side added to their run of wins by cruising to a 3-0 home victory over Club Brugge. Marco Asensio scored twice and Ian Maatsen also hit the net as Villa dominated with 10-1 shots on target.

Aston Villa Injuries & Team News

Striker Ollie Watkins missed out on England’s March internationals through injury but is expected to return here.

Midfielder Ross Barkley is ruled out due to injury.

Verdict

Aston Villa can control this FA Cup clash at Preston and create chances. The Villans have top attacking quality and can put goals past the Lillywhites at Deepdale.
