Sheffield United gave their automatic promotion hopes a real shot in the arm with a 2-1 victory away at Sunderland on Wednesday.
The Blades moved six points clear of third placed Middlesbrough in the race for automatic promotion and bounced back from a defeat to Luton four days earlier.
In the FA Cup, Sheffield United have beaten Millwall 2-0, Wrexham 3-1 in a replay after a 3-3 draw and Tottenham 1-0.
Blackburn were 2-1 winners at home to Reading in midweek to maintain their spot in fifth place in the Championship.
It was a welcome return to winning ways after Rovers had lost 3-2 away to Stoke a week ago to bring an end to a five-match winning run.
Those five wins included a 2-1 victory over Leicester in the last round of the FA Cup. They have also beaten Norwich 1-0 and Birmingham 1-0 in extra-time in a replay during their cup run.
