West Brom vs Newcastle Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

West Brom and Newcastle are set to produce a tight contest in their FA Cup fifth round clash at the Hawthorns. Goals have been hard to come by for both teams lately, Tuesday’s match is ikely to go the same route with a low scoring outcome predicted.

West Brom Form

West Brom were giant killers in the previous round as they overcame Premier League team West Ham 1-0 to book their place in Tuesday’s match. Conor Townsend broke the deadlock early in the first half to seal the win.

The Baggies have been inconsistent lately, particularly at home where they have claimed just two wins from their last eight matches. Slaven Bilic’s men head into Tuesday’s match off the back of a 1-0 home defeat to Wigan in a Championship fixture on Saturday.

West Brom News

West Brom are without key midfielder Romaine Sawyers who serves the last of a three-match suspension. Grady Diangana is nearing a return from injury but Tuesday’s match could come too soon for the forward.

Newcastle Form

Newcastle required a replay and extra time before seeing off League One outfit Oxford United in the previous round. Goals from Sean Longstaff and Joelinton earned them a full time draw before Allan Saint-Maximin struck the winner in extra time.

The Magpies have not been at their best in recent weeks having claimed just two wins in their last 11 matches. Steve Bruce’s men have struggled in attack and have failed to score in their last three matches, including a 0-0 draw against Burnley in a Premier League fixture on Saturday.

Newcastle News

Midfielder Jonjo Shelvey and full back Javier Manquillo made their return from injury on Saturday and could be handed another start at the Hawthorns. Centre back Ciaran Clark is ruled out for the season while striker Andy Carroll and the defensive pair of Paul Dummett and Jetro Willems are all set to miss Tuesday’s match through injury.

West Brom vs Newcastle Head to Head

West Brom have a 40-37 advantage with 30 draws from 107 previous matches against Newcastle. There has been under 2.5 goals in 6 of the last 7 matches while the Baggies claimed a 1-0 victory at St James’ Park in the last meeting between both teams during the 2017-18 Premier League season.

West Brom vs Newcastle Match Up

West Brom have tightened up at the back in recent weeks and have kept clean sheets in two of their last three matches. They are often inconsistent in attack with forward Hal Robson-Kanu scoring just once in his last five home matches.

Newcastle have also found things difficult in attack with Joelinton scoring just once in his last eight appearances while Miguel Almiron is currently on an eight-match goal drought. Having kept a clean sheet against Burnley on Saturday, they will be hopeful of shutting out a poor West Brom attack.
