South Melbourne have had a fairytale run in the Australia Cup but I'm tipping in ends against A-League side Macarthur FC on Sunday. The NPL outfit can get on the scoresheet though.

This will be the first meeting between the two teams.

South Melbourne finished top of the NPL Victoria ladder during the regular season, winning 19 of their 26 games.

They could not capture the premiership, however, losing out to Oakleigh Cannons 1-0 in the Grand Final.

South Melbourne now have the opportunity to reach a first Australia Cup final - although they will have to do it without star striker Harry Sawyer, who signed on with Macarthur at the start of the week.

Sawyer scored in the cup wins over A-League Wellington Phoenix in the Round of 32 and Hume City in the quarter-finals.

South Melbourne's last two Australia Cup victories over Olympic FC and Hume City came by 3-2 scores after extra-time.

Macarthur FC Form

Macarthur have benefitted from a fairly soft draw to reach the semi-finals and now they have another NPL team standing in their way of reaching a second Australia Cup final.

After losing their last two games of the A-League season 3-0 and 4-0 to Wellington and Sydney FC, Macarthur have regrouped nicely.

They defeated O'Connor Knights 2-1, Newcastle Jets 4-3 and NPL Victoria champions Oakleigh 1-0 in the quarter-finals.

Former Ligue 1 striker Valere Germain and Croatian winger Marin Jakolis have been instrumental for Macarthur, with the pair combining for eight goal contributions in the last two cup games.

It's been a great run for South Melbourne, but without Harry Sawyer, this could prove a step too far. Macarthur are tipped to win with BTTS also predicted.
