Inter Milan vs Fluminense Preview 


Fluminense struggled to create chances against Dortmund and Mamelodi in the group stage. Inter Milan took some time to find their rhythm but looked sharp in a 2-0 win over River Plate. I’m backing the Nerazzurri to win in a low-scoring affair.

This is going to be the first head to head match between Inter Milan and Fluminense.

Inter Milan did a good job in the Club World Cup so far, topping Group E with seven points ahead of Monterrey, River Plate and Urawa Red Diamonds. 

Cristian Chivu’s side started the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Monterrey, followed by a narrow 2-1 win over Urawa Reds in the second round thanks to Valentin Carboni’s stoppage time goal. 

The Nerazzurri completely shut down River Plate in the final round, allowing just two shots and winning the match 2-0. Francesco Esposito broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute, while the final result was set by Alessandro Bastoni in stoppage time. 

Fluminense Form 


Fluminense are unbeaten at the Club World Cup, recording two draws and one victory to advance as 2nd from Group F. 

They did a great job in deflecting Borussia Dortmund’s attacks in the opening match (0-0), then earned a 4-2 victory against Ulsan HD where Jhon Arias starred with one goal and one assist. 

In the final round, a goalless draw against Mamelodi Sundowns was enough for Fluminense to advance. They had 0.32-0.71 expected goals, 32% possession and 6-7 shots in that match. 

Team News 


Inter’s Marcus Thuram is likely to miss this match due to a thigh injury, while Piotr Zielinski, Benjamin Pavard, Hakan Calhanoglu and Yann Bisseck are also sidelined. 

As for the Brazilian side, they can’t count on injured Otavio, while Yeferson Soteldo and captain Thiago Silva are doubtful.

Fluminense are likely to sit deep against Inter, just as they did in goalless draws with Mamelodi and Dortmund. Nerazzurri stepped up in their final group match and I like their chances of edging this in a low-scoring contest.
