The 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup will be the 22nd edition of the tournament, a chance for the best young players in the world to showcase their skills and announce themselves on a global stage. The tournament was known as the FIFA World Youth Championship until 2005 when it became the FIFA U20 World Cup.
A total of 24 teams qualified for the tournament in Poland from all six continental competitions. 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup Groups
24 nations are competing for the 2019 U20 World Cup troph. Six time winners Argentina are third favourites at 9.00. South American rivals Brazil failed to qualify but Colombia are given a decent chance at 10.00, Uruguay at 15.00 followed by Ecuador.
The European contingent includes two time winners Portugal who are second favourites behind France who are the bookmakers chioce to win the tournament.
Italy, host nation Poland, Mexico, United States, Mali, Nigeria and Senegal are given an outside chance followed by long shots South Africa, Honduras, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, Panama and Tahiti.
Poland 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup Qualification, History, Manager & Squad
Host nation Poland will contest their 5th tournament with their best finish at the 1983 FIFA World Youth Championship where they finished third. Poland were defeated 1-0 by Argentina in the semi-finals before beating South Korea 2-1 after extra time in the third place play-off.
The White Eagles head coach Jacek Magiera was a defensive player for Raków Częstochowa, Legia Warsaw, Widzew, Raków Częstochowa and Cracovia.

Colombia 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup Qualification, History, Manager & Squad
Los Cafeteros qualified for their 10th tournament after scraping through in 4th position at the CONMEBOL 2019 South American U20 Championship. Colombiawon just one game in the five matches during the final stage but edged past Brazil on goal difference.
This will be Colombia’s 10th appearance at the U20 World Cup and first since 2015. Their best finish was third place in at the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship which took place in United Arab Emirates.
Arturo Reyes has been manager since December 2017 and is also the assistant manager of the Colombia men’s team. His playing career featured spells at Atlético Bucaramanga, Academia F.C., Atlético Huila and Unión Magdalena.

Tahiti 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup Qualification, History, Manager & Squad
Toa Aito qualified for their 2nd tournament after finishing as runners-up at the 2018 OFC U19 Championship on home soil. Tahiti finished behind New Zealand in Group A after defeating Papua New Guinea and Tonga. They then beat Solomon Islands 3-1 in the semi-finals but fell to a 1-0 defeat against New Zealand in the final.
Tahiti’s only previous appearance came at the 2009 FIFA U20 World Cup in Egypt where they lost every game in Group B, failing to score a goal and conceding 21. The South Pacific nation were defeated 8-0 by Spain, 8-0 by Venezuela and 5-0 by Nigeria.
Head coach Bruno Tehaamoana has been in charge since 2017 and will up against it in Poland where avoiding defeat would be a great result.

Senegal 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup Qualification, History, Manager & Squad
The Young Lions of Teranga are only making their 3rd appearance after finishing 4th in 2015 in New Zealand. Senegal qualified after finishing as runners-up at the 2019 CAF Africa U20 Cup of Nations where they were defeated in the final in a penalty shootout against Mali.
Senegal did well in their first U20 World Cup in 2015, advancing as one of the best third-placed teams before beating Ukraine and Uzbekistan in the knockout rounds. They were no match for Brazil in the semi-final where they were thrashed 5-0 by Brazil.
Head coach Youssouph Dabo is in charge of a bright generation.

El Tri are regular contenders and will me making their 16th appearance. Their best finish was as runners-up at the 1977 FIFA World Youth Championship in Tunisia where they lost the final 9-8 in a penalty shootout against Soviet Union.
Mexico qualified through the 2018 CONCACAF U20 Championship where they were defeated 2-0 in the final by United States. José Macías was the top scorer at the tournament after scoring 10 goals.
Diego Ramírez is the manager after assistant manager spells at Club América and Club Tijuana before a short spell in charge at Dorados de Sinaloa.

Italy 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup Qualification, History, Manager & Squad
Gli Azzurrini haven’t tasted success at the U20 World Cup with their best finish in 2017 where they finished third. Italy lost 3-1 against eventual winners England in the semi-finals before beating Uruguay in a penalty shootout in the third place play-off.
Italy qualified after finished runners-up at the 2018 UEFA European U19 Championship. It was a thrilling final against Portugal, Moise Kean scoring twice in two minutes to send the match to extra time. Gianluca Scamacca equalised in the 107th minute but Portugal scored two minutes later to win the competition.
Italy will contest their 7th U20 World Cup under manager Paolo Nicolato. Nicolato was previously in charge of Chievo U19, Lumezzane and the Italy U18 and U19 squads.

Japan 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup Qualification, History, Manager & Squad
The Samurai Blue are making their 10th appearance at the FIFA U20 World Cup with their best finish in 199 where they finished runners-up. The Asian nation performed well in Nigeria, getting past Portugal, Mexico and Uruguay in the knockout rounds but were no match against Spain in the final where they were defeated 4-0.
Japan qualified after making the semi-finals of the 2018 AFC U19 Championship in Indonesia where they lost 2-0 against Saudi Arabia.
Japan are managed by Masanaga Kageyama who was a defender for JEF United Ichihara, Urawa Reds and Brummell Sendai. He previously managed Macau, Singapore U16 and Fagiano Okayama before taking over the Japanese U20 side in 2019.

La Tricolor qualified by winning the CONMEBOL2019 South American U20 Championship which was their first title. Leonardo Campana finished as top scorer with six goals, Alexander Alvarado and Jordan Rezabala both scoring three.
This will be Ecuador’s 4th appearance with their best finish being round of 16 finishes in 2001 and 2011. Former Argentine goalkeeper Jorge Célico will manage the side after taking over on 17 July 2017.

Honduras are making their 8th appearance and will be aiming to get out of the group stage for the first time. The Central American nation qualified after finishing 4th at the 2018 CONCACAF U20 Championship in the United States.
Manager Carlos Tábora was a central defender in the Honduras Second Division such as Independiente Villela and Hermacasa. He has managed at Independiente Villela, Platense, Honduras national under-17 football team, Villanueva, Parrillas One, Sula de La Lima, Honduras U21 football team, Honduras U15 team before returns to Parrillas One and Platense followed by the Honduras U20 team. On 26 February 2018, Tábora was appointed as coach for the senior Honduran team.

The Junior All Whites are making their sixth appearance after reaching the round of 16 in 2015 and 2017. New Zealand qualified after winning the 2018 OFC U19 Championship where they defeated Tahiti 1-0 in the final.
Max Mata top scored at the tournament with five goals, Charles Spragg next best with four, Joe Bell and Oliver Whyte both scoring three. New Zealand head coach Des Buckingham was assistant manager of the men’s team before taking over the U20 side in February 2018.

La Celeste are making their 15th appearance after finishing as runners-up in 1997 and 2013. Uruguay were defeated by Argentina in the 1997 FIFA World Youth Championship final and by France in the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup final.
The Sky Blue qualified after finishing third at the CONMEBOL 2019 South American U20 Championship. Head coach Gustavo Ferreyra played for Central Español and Peñarol in the Primera División Uruguaya.
He was assistant manager for Uruguay U17 from 2009-14 and Uruguay U17 from 2014-19 before taking the top job in February. Ferreyra made five appearances for the senior Uruguay national football team in 1991.

The Scandinavian nation will be contesting just their 3rd tournament after defeating England 3-0 in the FIFA U20 World Cup play-off at the 2018 UEFA European U19 Championship. Erik Botheim, Eman Markovic and Jens Petter Hauge scored in the final 15 minutes in a historic victory.
Norway couldn’t get out of the group stage in their previous appearances in 1989 and 1993. They will be managed by Pål Arne Johansen who has been with these players through the Norway U18 and U19 level.

This will be Qatar’s 4th appearance with their best finish at the 1981 FIFA World Youth Championship in Australia where they were runners-up. Qatar beat Brazil 3-2 in the quarter-finals, England 2-1 in the semi-finals before falling 4-0 against West Germany in the final in Sydney.
Qatar qualified for the tournament in Poland through the 2018 AFC U19 Championship where they were defeated 3-1 by South Korea in the semi-finals. Head coach is Portugal's Bruno Pinheiro.

The Flying Eagles have come close to winning the U20 World Cup after ending as runners-up on two occasions. They lost the 1989 final in Saudi Arabia after a 2-0 loss against Portugal, defeated 2-1 by Argentina in the 2005 final in the Netherlands.
Nigeria qualified for their 12th tournament after finishing 4th at the 2019 CAF Africa U20 Cup of Nations. They lost the third place play-off in a penalty shootout against South Africa.

The United States are the most experiences nation at this level and will me making their 16th appearance. They have found it tough on the international stage however, their best finish at the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship in Saudi Arabia where they finished fourth.
The Stars and Stripes qualified after winning the 2018 CONCACAF U20 Championship on home soil. They beat Mexico 2-0 in final with Alexis Mendez scoring both goals on his way to winning the Golden Ball award.
United States head coach Tab Ramos was a midfielder for New Jersey Eagles, Miami Sharks, Figueres, Real Betis, UANL Tigres and MetroStars and earned 81 caps the for men’s national team. Ramos led the U20 side to the 2013 CONCACAF U20 Championship final where they lost to Mexico but got their revenge in 2018.

La Marea Roja earned their 6th appearance after qualifying through the 2018 CONCACAF U20 Championship. They have never got past the group stage (2003, 2005, 2007, 2011, 2015) and will hope to go one better in Poland.
Head coach Jorge Dely Valdés was a forward who scored prolifically for Unión Española, Toshiba47, Cerezo Osaka, Tosu Futures, Consadole Sapporo, Colorado Rapids, Omiya Ardija and Kawasaki Frontale. He also scored 19 goals in 48 appearances for Panama and has been in charge of the U20 side since 2018.

The Eagles have a proud record at the tournament after finishing third in 1999 and 2015. Mali are managed by Mamoutou Kane.
They qualified for the knockout rounds in New Zealand in 2015 after being one of the best third-placed teams. Mali beat Ghana and Germany before falling against eventual winners Serbia 2-1 after extra time. They beat fellow African’s Senegal 3-1 in the third place play-off in Auckland.
This will be Mali’s 7th appearance after qualifying through the 2019 Africa U20 Cup of Nations which they won. They faced Senegal once again, winning in a penalty shootout after the match ended 1-1 after extra time.

Les Bleuets will me making their 7th FIFA U20 World Cup appearance after being champions at the 2013 tournament in Turkey. France qualified by finishing 5th at the 2018 UEFA European U19 Championship where they were defeated 2-0 by Italy in the semi-finals.
The Little Blues are managed by Bernard Diomède who played as a winger and won the 1998 World Cup with France. Diomède spent most of his career at Auxerre before spells at Liverpool, Ajaccio, Créteil and Clermont Foot.

The Green Falcons reached the round of 16 in 2011 and 2017 and will be contesting their 9th tournament. Saudi Arabia qualified by winning the 2018 AFC U19 Championship where they beat Australia 3-1 in the quarter-finals, Japan 2-0 in the semi-finals and South Korea 2-1 in the final.

Portugal have a proud record at the tournament after winning the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship in Saudi Arabia and the 1991 FIFA World Youth Championship on home soil.
The 1989 and 1991 winning squads are known as the Golden Generation, the team that finished runner up at the 2011 FIFA U20 World Cup are known as the Silver Generation.
Portugal qualified after winning the 2018 UEFA European U19 Championship in Finland. Portugal beat Ukraine 5-0 in the semi-finals before scraping past Italy 4-3 in the final after an exciting extra time victory. João Filipe and Francisco Trincão ended as top scorers with five goals each.
This will be Portugal’s 12th appearance at the tournament and will be managed by Hélio Sousa. The Setúbal native played for Vitória Setúbal where he was a central midfielder from 1987-2005.
Sousa has been in charge of Portugal's youth squads since 2009, winning the 2016 UEFA U17 European Championship and 2018 European U19 Championship.

The Taegeuk Warriors have a long history at the tournament and will be making their 15th appearance in 2019. They haven’t had much success however, their best finish at the 1983 FIFA World Youth Championship in Mexico where they ended up fourth.
