Italy U20 vs Mali U20 Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Italy U20 will be relying on their strong defence against Mali U20 in the FIFA U20 World Cup quarter finals in Tychy. Italy have the best defence in the competition, Mali one of the worst and I believe that will help the Italians beat the Africans at 2.30.

Italy U20 Form & Team News

Italy’s FIFA U20 World Cup campaign started with a 2-1 win against Mexico with goals to Davide Frattesi and Luca Ranieri. Gli Azzurrini then overcame Ecuador 1-0 to ensure early qualification into the round of 16, captain Andrea Pinamonti scoring the winner in the 15th minute.

There was little riding on Italy’s final Group B match against Japan that ended 0-0 in Bydgoszcz. Manager Paolo made nine changes and gave six of his players their first appearances at the tournament.

Nicolato reverted to his first choice XI against Poland in the round of 16 in Gdynia, Andrea Pinamonti scoring the winner with a penalty in the 38th minute. Poland had chances but goalkeeper Alessandro Plizzari stood strong once again.

Italy are currently priced at 2.30 to beat Mali which will be snapped up by many punters. Italy’s defensive strength can’t be discounted, Gli Azzurrini keeping three consecutive clean sheets at the 2019 U20 World Cup.

Mali U20 Form & Team News

Mali drew their first U20 World Cup match 1-1 draw against Panama, conceding a late penalty after Aboubacar Konte had put the Africans in front. Mahamoutou Kane’s side then defeated Saudi Arabia 4-3 in Gdynia with goals to Sekou Koita, Ibrahima Kone, Boubacar Traore and Mohamed Camara.

FIFA U20 World Cup favourites France were next that ended in a 3-2 defeat. Sekou Koita made it 1-1 but Ousmane Diakite’s late goal was only a consolation. Argentina were next in one of the best matches at the tournament.

Mali came from behind twice to advance to the quarter-finals, winning 5-4 on penalties after the match finished 2-2 after extra time. Mali equalised when towering centre back Abdoulaye Diaby headed home a corner that sent the match to extra time.

Mali looked dead and buried with time running out, but a quick Sekou Koita free kick released Boubacar Konte who finished from a tight angle. The Eagles welcome back right-back Fode Konate and central midfielder Mohamed Camara who were suspended against Argentina.

Mali can be backed at 3.30 to upset Italy with a draw paying 3.20. The African U20 champions have to tighten up their defence which has conceded eight goals in their last three matches at the 2019 U20 World Cup.

Italy U20 vs Mali U20 Head to Head

This will be the first match between Italy U20 and Mali U20.

Italy U20 vs Mali U20 Match Up

Italy are tough to break down with three central defenders and a strong spine. Goalkeeper Alessandro Plizzari has been in great form fine form behind midfielder Davide Frattesi, striker Andrea Pinamonti forming a strong attacking partnership with Gianluca Scamacca.

Unlike Italy’s rock solid defence, Mali have been leaking goals at an alarming rate. The Africans have conceded eight goals in their last three matches at the 2019 U20 World Cup, failing to keep a clean sheet in their last seven matches in all competitions.
