Bahrain vs Japan Predictions

Japan have been in wonderful form over the past year, another victory seems inevitable on Tuesday.

Given their penchant for high-scoring victories, I'm backing an away win with at least three goals scored.

  • Bahrain lost 2 of their last 5 home matches
  • Bahrain have seen over 2.5 goals in 2 of their last 3 home matches
  • Bahrain lost 5 of their last 6 matches against Japan
  • Japan won 18 of their last 20 matches
  • Japan have seen over 2.5 goals in 16 of their last 18 victories

Head to Head

Bahrain and Japan will meet for the seventh time on Tuesday. Japan won all but one of their six previous encounters, including a 3-1 victory at the Asian Cup last January.

Bahrain Form

Bahrain gave their World Cup qualification hopes a massive shot in the arm with a shock 1-0 win in Australia last week. Harry Souttar's 89th-minute own-goal secured one of the most famous victories in Bahrani football history.

Unbeaten in their last five matches, Bahrain lost only one of their eight previous fixtures - a 3-1 defeat against Japan at the Asian Cup.

Placed 80th in the FIFA World Rankings, Dragan Talajić's side are bidding to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in their history.

Bahrain Team News

Goalkeepers: Sayed Mohammed Jaffer (captain), Ebrahim Lutfalla, Ammar Mohamed
Defenders: Amine Benaddi, Sayed Baqer, Waleed Al Hayam, Hamad Al-Shamsan, Mohamed Adel, Mohamed Al-Banna, Abdullah Al-Khalasi, Hazza Ali, Sayed Dhiya Saeed
Midfielders: Ali Haram, Moses Atede, Ebrahim Al-Khattal, Mohamed Marhoon, Kamil Al-Aswad, Abdulwahab Al-Malood, Ahmed Al-Sherooqi, Ali Madan
Forwards: Mahdi Al-Humaidan, Abdulla Yusuf Helal, Mahdi Abduljabbar, Ismail Abdullatif, Jasim Al-Shaikh, Husain Abdulkarim

Dragan Talajić has a 26-man squad at his disposal as Bahrain search for back-to-back qualification victories. The hosts are likely to remain unchanged after their sensational win in Australia.

Japan Form

Japan make the trip to Bahrain in fine form after scoring a sensational 7-0 win against China last week. An impressive display saw seven different players get on the scoresheet in an easy victory for The Samurai Blue.

Hajime Moriyasu's men have enjoyed a tremendous run of form over the past 15 months, collecting 18 victories while losing just twice.

Scoring for fun, the Japanese bagged 20 goals in recent AFC World Cup qualification wins against Korea DPR (3-0), Myanmar (5-0), Syria (5-0) and the aforementioned Chinese.

Japan Team News

Goalkeepers: Zion Suzuki, Keisuke Osako, Kosei Tani
Defenders: Yukinari Sugawara, Shogo Taniguchi, Ko Itakura, Koki Machida, Kota Takai, Yūta Nakayama, Yuto Nagatomo, Henry Hiroki Mochizuki
Midfielders: Hidemasa Morita, Wataru Endō (captain), Kaoru Mitoma, Takumi Minamino, Ritsu Dōan, Keito Nakamura, Junya Itō, Daichi Kamada, Ao Tanaka, Takefusa Kubo, Reo Hatate
Forwards: Ayase Ueda, Daizen Maeda, Takuma Asano, Koki Ogawa, Mao Hosoya

Japanese boss Moriyasu is likely to keep faith in the same selection that eased past China on Thursday.

Injured Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is the only notable absentee from the Japan squad.

Verdict

Japan should be able to maintain their winning formula in Tuesday's World Cup qualifier.

An away win, with at least three match goals could prove the best bet at Stād al-Bahrayn al-Watanī.
