Bolivia vs Colombia Predictions

Thursday's World qualifier in El Alto is a particularly tough tie to call, with both nations capable of getting a positive result.

With that in mind, I'm instead taking a small-stakes punt on over 2.5 goals scored in El Alto.

  • Bolivia have seen over 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 8 home matches (World Cup qualifiers)
  • Colombia have seen over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 7 matches against Bolivia

Head to Head

Bolivia and Colombia have faced each other on 17 previous occasions since 1997. Colombia boast a strong record of 12 wins to Bolivia's two.

La Verde have proven tough to beat on home soil, though, with Colombia failing to win on six of their last eight visits to Bolivia.

Bolivia Form

Bolivia gave their World Cup qualification hopes a massive boost with a surprise double victory in last month's round of qualifying ties. After an impressive 4-0 win against an in-form Venezuela, Óscar Villegas's side claimed a shock 2-1 road victory in Chile.

La Verde had lost 13 of their 15 previous matches before last month's pair of qualification wins.

High-scoring outcomes proved frequent in recent World Cup qualifiers in Bolivia. An average of four goals per game was scored across their last eight home qualification fixtures since October 2021.

Bolivia Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers:Guillermo Viscarra, Bruno Poveda, Alejandro Torres
Defenders:José Sagredo, Roberto Fernández, Luis Haquín (captain), Diego Medina, Marcelo Suárez, Yomar Rocha, Sebastián Álvarez, Luis Paz, Pablo Vaca
Midfielders:Ramiro Vaca, Gabriel Villamíl, Miguel Terceros, Héctor Cuéllar, Jeyson Chura, Robson Tomé, Adalid Terrazas, Daniel Camacho, Víctor Cuéllar, Ervin Vaca
Forwards: Carmelo Algarañaz, Bruno Miranda, Lucas Chávez, Enzo Monteiro, José Martínez, Jhon Velásquez

Óscar Villegas has a relatively inexperienced 28-man pool to choose from ahead of Thursday's World Cup qualifier in El Alto. Sixteen members of the selection have 10 caps or fewer.

Rodrigo Ramallo and Leonel Justiniano are among the more experienced names not included in the squad.

Colombia Form

Colombia make the trip to El Alto in high spirits after an outstanding 2-1 win against world champions Argentina last month. James Rodriguez's second-half penalty secured a famous victory and with it, extended Los Cafetero's unbeaten run in World Cup qualifiers to ten matches.

Prior to the vital win against Argentina, Colombia picked up a precious 1-1 draw in Peru, thanks to a late equaliser from an in-form Luis Diaz.

Eight games into this qualification campaign, Néstor Lorenzo's side sit second in the section, two points behind the Argentines.

Colombia Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Camilo Vargas, Álvaro Montero, Kevin Mier
Defenders: Davinson Sánchez, Santiago Arias, Yerry Mina, Johan Mojica, Jhon Lucumí, Cristian Borja, Juan David Cabal, Willer Ditta, Andrés Román
Midfielders: James Rodríguez (captain), Mateus Uribe, Jefferson Lerma, Juan Fernando Quintero, Jhon Arias, Jorge Carrascal, Richard Ríos, Kevin Castaño, Yáser Asprilla, Juan Portilla, Nelson Deossa
Forwards: Luis Díaz, Roger Martínez, Luis Sinisterra, Jhon Córdoba, Jhon Durán, Juan Camilo Hernández

Head coach Lorenzo has a strong 29-man squad available for Thursday's World Cup qualifier. Premier League forwards Luis Diaz and Jhon Duran are both expected to feature in the Colombian attack.

Injured duo David Ospina and Rafael Santos Borré remain sidelined.

Verdict

A potentially entertaining affair could see a few goals on Thursday evening.

I'm taking a chance on over 2.5 goals scored at the Estadio Municipal El Alto.
