Brazil open their World Cup qualifying campaign as they host Boliva at the Neo Quimica Arena in Sao Paulo on Friday. The Bolivians should pose little threat to a very strong Brazil squad.

Brazil Form

In July 2019 Brazil won the Copa America in Rio after beating Peru 3-1 in the final. Since that final Brazil have played six matches, all of which were friendlies and drawn three, lost two and won one.

After the Copa America, Brazil drew 2-2 at home with Colombia, then lost at home to Peru before playing out two 1-1 home stalemates against Senegal and Nigeria. This was followed by a 1-0 home defeat to arch-rivals Argentina.

In their last match Brazil beat Korea Republic 3-0 at home. Lucas Paqueta, Philippe Coutinho and Danilo were the goal scorers.

Brazil News

Goalkeeper Alisson is missing from the squad due to injury but in Ederson the hosts have a world class back-up. Talisman forward, Neymar has suffered a back injury in training this week and is a doubt to start.

Brazil have called up a very strong outfit with most of their available players from Europe all in attendance.

Veteran centre-back Thiago Silva retains his place in the squad despite having only recently returned from injury.

Brazil Squad

Goalkeepers: Ederson, Weverton, Santos.

Defenders: Danilo, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Renan Lodi, Alex Telles, Rodrigo Caio, Felipe, Gabriel Menino.

Midfielders: Casemiro, Douglas Luiz, Philippe Coutinho, Éverton Ribeiro, Fabinho, Bruno Guimarães.

Forwards: Richarlison, Matheus Cunha, Neymar, Everton, Roberto Firmino, Rodrygo

Bolivia Form

Bolivia never made it out of the group stage of the Copa America after losing all three group matches. There has been little improvement in the three friendlies since, with two defeats and a win.

First Bolivia lost 3-0 in Ecuador before suffering a 4-1 away defeat to Venezuela. Bolivia’s last match ended in a 3-1 victory at home to the lowly Haiti. Erwin Saavedra scored a brace while Gilbert Alvarez added a third.

Bolivia News

Bolivia have picked a squad largely from their local league. Only three players come from outside of Bolivia - one plays in Brazil, one in Italy and another in Switzerland. While they are close to full strength it gives an indication of the difference in quality between the sides.

Bolivia Squad

Goalkeepers: Carlos Lampe, Ruben Cordano, Jimmy Roca.

Defenders: Gabriel Valverde, Harry Céspedes, Sebastián Reyes, Carlos Áñez, José Sagredo, Leonardo Zabala, Guimer Justiniano, José María Carrasco, Walter Antelo, Jairo Quinteros, Saúl Torres, Alex Arano, Jesús Sagredo.

Midfielders: Boris Cespedes, Diego Wayar, Raúl Castro, Antonio Bustamante, Franz Gonzales, Jhasmani Campos, Christian Árabe, Erwin Junior Sánchez, Héctor Sánchez, Matheo Zoch, Rudy Cardozo.

Forwards: Fernando Saldías, Carlos Saucedo, Bruno Miranda, Ferddy Roca, Nelson Orozco, César Menacho, Jaume Cuéllar

Brazil vs Bolivia Head to Head

Brazil hold a comfortable 21-5 lead over Bolivia in their 30 previous encounters along with four drawn games.  Brazil beat Bolivia 3-0 when they last met in 2019 at the Copa America.

Brazil vs Bolivia Odds

Brazil are huge favourites at 1.05 with Bolivia offering odds of 21.00. A draw is priced at 13.00 with bet365.

Brazil vs Bolivia Match Up

Brazil have called up most of their stars from European leagues and should have far too much quality for Bolivia. If Brazil turn up and don’t underestimate the opponent we could be in for a high scoring affair.
