Colombia host Uruguay in a FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Melendez on Friday. Edinson Cavani is back in the Uruguay squad to partner Luis Suarez in Barranquilla.

Colombia Form

Colombia won all three matches in the 2019 Copa America group stage before a 0-0 draw and loss on penalties in the quarter-final to Chile.

The side won two, drew three and lost one of their six friendly matches in late 2019 before they returned to competitive action.

Colombia got their 2022 World Cup qualifiers off to a strong start as they beat Venezuela 3-0 at home. In their last match, they drew 2-2 away to Chile. Jefferson Lerma gave Colombia the lead but it was an injury time goal by Radamel Falcao which rescued a point at 2-1 down.

Colombia Team News

Experienced goalkeeper David Ospina is back in the Colombia squad but is expected to miss this game after being sent for an x-ray on an injury problem. Camilo Vargas is expected to take his place in goal.

Carlos Queiroz has a weakened attack as both Radamel Falcao (91 caps, 35 goals)  and Jhon Cordoba are out injured. Rafael Santos Borre also misses out due to COVID-19.

James Rodriguez is carrying an injury but is expected to be fit after some fine form for Everton with three goals and four assists in his first eight matches.

Uruguay Form

Uruguay reached the 2019 Copa America quarter-finals before being eliminated by Peru on penalties after a 0-0 draw.

Oscar Tabarez’s side played six friendlies in late 2019, beating Costa Rica 2-1, Peru 1-0 and Hungary 2-1 and drawing 1-1 against USA, 1-1 with Peru and 2-2 with Argentina.

Uruguay beat Chile 2-1 at home in their opening 2022 World Cup qualifier. Luis Suarez opened the scoring and Maxi Gomez scored the winner.

In the last match, Uruguay found themselves 4-0 down after 75 minutes away to Ecuador before two late consolation goals by Luis Suarez in a 4-2 defeat.

Uruguay Team News

Oscar Tabarez has recalled Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani and Atletico Madrid defender Jose Maria Gimenez to his squad. Both missed the Chile and Ecuador matches due to fitness concerns.

Also included are Gimenez’s Atletico Madrid teammates Luiz Suarez and Lucas Torreira, and in-form Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, who has scored five goals at club level this season.

Luiz Suarez with 62 goals in 115 caps and Edinson Cavani with 50 goals in 116 appearances are the team’s chief attacking threats.

Colombia vs Uruguay Odds

Colombia are 2.00 favourites for this game while Uruguay are priced at 3.80 to win with bet365. A draw is available at 3.30.

Colombia vs Uruguay Match Up

Uruguay should be much stronger with the return of Jose Gimenez to shore up their backline which leaked four goals against Ecuador. Colombia are missing Radamel Falcao so that could mean a lower scoring game.
